Exactly that - we need to buy one and the one I like is £700 inc. car seat.

Is it too much?

How many children do you think you will have and use it for?

Personally I wouldn't spend more than £300-£400.

SideOrderofChips · 28/03/2015 12:58

Its not an amount i would spend personally but its your life

FernGullysWoollyPully · 28/03/2015 12:58

If you can afford it and it's the one you like then no yanbu.

Personally, I can't justify spending that much money on one but if I could, I would!

WorraLiberty · 28/03/2015 12:58

Too much for who?

If you mean too much for you, well only you would know that.

If you like this particular one and you don't have to resort to doing a smash and grab, just buy it.

stargirl1701 · 28/03/2015 12:59

YANBU if you can afford it.

YABU if you can't afford it.

My Dad bought DD1 the Stokke Xplory V3. It's been a brilliant buy.

NerrSnerr · 28/03/2015 12:59

If it's what you want and you can afford it then go for it. We got ours last year for about half price in the Babies R Us sale for about £300 so deals can be done.

CapnMurica · 28/03/2015 13:00

Personally I wouldn't.

But if you want it and can afford it, then why not?

CinderellaRockefeller · 28/03/2015 13:00

We spent more than that on ours and it was totally worth it, because it was the only one that did everything I wanted it to do and I liked the look of.

If you can afford it, do it. You're going to spend a few years pushing the thing, you'll get your money's worth.

shitebag · 28/03/2015 13:01

If you like it and can afford it go for it.

We spent £500 on a pushchair with no accessories or car seat and its been used for miles everyday for more than 2 years so its pennies per use really.

I have had cheaper pushchairs and I just don't get on with them.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 28/03/2015 13:01

Depends if that it is also a pushchair which suits your needs long term then it may be cost effective. It also comes down to whether you can easily afford it.

Only1scoop · 28/03/2015 13:02

Depends if you think you will get the use from it.

I didn't buy a 'travel system' I had a Stokke xplory I bought the carrycot with it and used it about twice.

Loved it ....but there are bits I wouldn't have bothered with and then had to store.

MyDarlingClementine · 28/03/2015 13:03

Having had two dc, now 9 and 3, looking back I think travel systems are one area where new parents get royally screwed over.

They play to your emotions.
Can you afford it? If so, get it.

Ifs its going to be pricey, your far better off, looking for stuff in papers, going to baby markets, ebay, and looking for second hand stuff.

The far far far best ££ I have ever made child wise ( remembering one is 9), was this:

www.mumsnet.com/reviews/nursery/cots-cribs-cotbeds/9963-arms-reach-universal-co-sleeper-bedside-cot

You can buy second hand too, and it saved my sanity second time round, forget moses, keep for down stairs THIS BABY was amazing and although I got it for a c section, second time round, I wish I had had it for my first baby too, as it means no sitting up, transfers, straining, helps with BF, happy baby right by you, but you can relaz in your sleep as baby totally in his part....it was amazing.

MyDarlingClementine · 28/03/2015 13:04

dont forget its only about two years you will use it for if that as baby grows out of car seat etc.

MyDarlingClementine · 28/03/2015 13:04

one more thing, when you have baby, if you are short of cash you wil wish you had money to get out and do stuff.

ScotsWhaHae · 28/03/2015 13:06

I spent £800 on my set up 10 years ago. Used almost daily for over 2 years for 2 kids. Great value!

If you can afford it, if it suits your requirements, then go for it.

There's always a race to the bottom with prams on mumsnet. Anything beyond a 4th hand McLaren is seen as extravagant.

I bought an expensive one and regretted it tbh. But we lived rurally and drove everywhere so it didn't get used that much. Then the moment ds2 came along - year or so later - I had to buy another one that could take 2 children.

MyDarlingClementine · 28/03/2015 13:09

Grin scots, no.

I paid 170 for ours and its light and lasted two dc.

However all my friends were frustrated and their very expensive, and cumbersome ones that didnt fold easily or fit into the boot of their cars well....

And they were tired, as they had spent all ££ on pram and then got a moses basket.

So passing on some wisdom to op, who is asking, I suggest, put your money onto a co sleeper and anything left onto pram.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 28/03/2015 13:10

We spent around £600 on a trade system seven years ago, but it's proved to be worth every penny. We've used it for three DC, never had any problems and it still looks in terrific shape. It's very robust and has met all our needs for each child. It's worth it if you can afford it.

sparklepopsicles · 28/03/2015 13:15

We spent around that and think it was worth it so up to you if you can afford it.

HazleNutt · 28/03/2015 13:16

If you can afford it then sure why not, spent more on ours and no regrets. YABU if you were planning to take out a payday loan to pay for it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/03/2015 13:17

If you can afford it, Yanbu. If you can't then yabu.

shitebag · 28/03/2015 13:17

Scots, oh how true :o

Thing is OP what works for one may not work for another, I walk everywhere on all sorts of terrain and needed something that would be durable enough to withstand that and be confy enough for the wee one. If it does what you need then it'll last you well and be worth every penny.

I bought second hand twice and will never do it again as both pushchairs broke within a few months despite me checking them thoroughly before buying. More expensive to replace in the long run.

GunShotResidue · 28/03/2015 13:22

We spent about that, maybe a bit more, and don't regret it at all. DD is 14 months and I haven't felt the need to buy anything else, we still use it with the car seat occasionally. Hoping to have another DC next year and will buy a buggy board thing and continue to use it.

A friend with a DS the same age bought a cheap one and hated it, they're on their 3rd pram now. But then my cousin bought an expensive travel system and it was too heavy to lift into and out of their car, whereas she loves their new cheap on.

So mixed messages! but I'd say there's nothing wrong with spending that amount if you can afford it and are sure it's the one you want.
