To ask for your tips in helping a teething baby

DD2 (1) seems to be teething at the moment, at least 4 teeth coming through at the same time. since Sunday she has been very clingy to me and DW. Screams if we sit down while holding her, so a lot of standing up throughout the day Sad. She keeps grabbing her ears, mouth, hair (anything really). Nights have been terrible, she's been co-sleeping but wakes up a lot screaming and wriggling. We have used teething gel but it only helps for a little while then the screaming starts again. She doesnt really take teething rings or anything.

Any wise mnetters got any tips to help? We just want poor little baby to feel better and get back to her usual smiley self.

Thank you all for reading.

Paracetamol (we use doliprane), ice in a muslin to chew on, teething ring or something hard to bite on, anbesol... Poor mite, DD has a few teeth coming in too, it's painful Sad

Madamecastafiore · 26/03/2015 18:54

Calpol and neurofen alternately and a toothbrush soaked in Anbesol for them to chew or p rub into their gums.

We got s teething necklace for DD too and thought it worked.

Madamecastafiore · 26/03/2015 18:55

Teething powders are really good too.

LittleBearPad · 26/03/2015 18:56

Calpol and ibuprofen alternately.

Bonjela

Cold milk or dummies.

WittgensteinsBunny · 26/03/2015 19:02

Nurofen, extra breastfeeds, co-sleeping, chew toys, ice, ice lollies, cold water and extra distraction / activities. Nurofen was the only one that really gave her us a proper reprieve, so we tended to give at bedtime and in the night and try not to in the day so we could try and get better nights over say a week. However, I've got friebds who did the alternate nurofen / calpol over a very long time (couple of weeks) and their babies seem ok. We were just a bit nervous of doing that. We've only got 2 left to go now. Thank. God. Teething has been hardwork in our house so you have my sympathies. Thanks

Anbesol liquid. Bots teething gel is stronger than bonjela. Lots of chew toys. And crack open the baby nurofen.

Ear grabbing_ could it be an ear infection? My LO had one without me realising, managed it with calpol, cosleeping and lots of comfort boob (and very little actual sleep).

Just remembered, my DH used to gently put pressure on baby's gums. Used a clean little finger. Offered short term immediate relief.

Good luck. And it will pass.

BabyStone · 26/03/2015 19:07

I absolutely swear by Anbesol teething liquid, only need a drop on the gums and it numbs them also for over night I use Nurofen medicine for DS, I've found this more effective than Calpol for teething.

CobbOnn · 26/03/2015 19:08

Boots teething gel

callmewhatever · 26/03/2015 19:09

Thank you all for the replies. DW stopped bf last week, which in a way has made it harder because whenever dd has been ill before she has used breast for comfort.

I've taken her to bed, goes down easy at first, but if she wakes it takes her a while to go back down as she just screams. Our bedroom has a joining wall with neighbours bedroom, so feel concious that dd may disturb them during the night too.

Teething gel slides off, anbesol properly numbs gums and should get you a better night at least.

Baby paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated every 3 hours.

Ashton and parsons powders (the sweetness takes their minds off it, the chamomile is soothing and the grainy texture makes them bump their gums which eases the pain).

sparkysparkysparky · 26/03/2015 19:12

Anbesol. Tooth powders. I don't believe in homeopathy but I think dd liked the texture

callmewhatever · 26/03/2015 19:13

Looks like a trip to boots tomorrow at lunchtime to stock up. Don't remember dd1 being this bad, think we are unlucky that so many are coming through at once.

She could possibly have an ear infection too, she just got over a cold 2 weeks ago, then this, poor thing. Think she has drifted off now so that's one bonus Smile .

Ashton & Parsons every time. Even a hint of toothyness and mine get it. Sorted Smile

reallywittyname · 26/03/2015 19:15

Tooth powders, and frozen slices of melon to chew on, and biccy pegs, and calpol, and wine (for you!)

ohlittlepea · 26/03/2015 19:18

Chewing a clean cold wet flannel or frozen strips of bread seems to help my lo xx

trukevoli · 26/03/2015 19:21

frozen fruit, banana is apparently quite good.

Chunkymonkey79 · 26/03/2015 20:43

Anbesol liquid, not gel. Liquid is easier to apply and stays on.

Nelsons teetha granules - has a calming effect due to chamomile.

Plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen

Cold things!!!! My DS loves frozen banana to soothe gums

Xx

toffeeboffin · 26/03/2015 23:44

Reading with interest as DS is teething his molars. Good idea to get baby checked for an ear infection, my DS has just been diagnosed with one, we thought it was just teething. He's also got a cold, pink eye and a bit of a throat infection! Hmm

DisappointedOne · 27/03/2015 08:34

There's no actual chamomile in the Teetha granules. There is in other (non-homeopathic) brands.
