To think this really wasn't the best time/place for a selfie?

Woman I know has had a hacking cough on and off for about three weeks and recently went in for a chest x ray to check things out.

She decided to post a selfie on facebook in her hospital gown, standing behind a curtain so presumably just before the x ray was done.

Aibu to think this is a teeny bit weird? If I was going in for a chest X-ray the last thing on my mind would be taking a pic and posting it on my facebook wall! But then I hate taking photos of myself to maybe I am just a spoilsport :D

Does she have lots of colleagues on her FB? Maybe she's just trying to prove she's not pulling a sickie?

dangerrabbit · 25/03/2015 22:54

But seriously, YANBU

DoJo · 25/03/2015 22:56

Maybe she wanted a little support because she was worried about what they might find. Some people find it comforting to know that there are people waiting to hear their results, especially if they don't have family or friends close by to be there in person.

QueenBean · 25/03/2015 22:57

No, I think this is amusing - me and my friends always send each other inappropriate selfies of ridiculous situations, it helps lighten the mood of what otherwise can be a worrying or stressful time.

Saying that, we would only send them our immediate whatsapp group rather than posting it to FB which is quite attention seeking

It really doesn't have anything to you though, so YABU

YANBU! I unfriended an ex-colleague because she took a photo of herself right after a car accident on a stretcher with her head in blocks. Why do people think every occurrence needs a selfie?!

Fluffyears · 25/03/2015 22:57

The colleague thing could be right. I tend to do a check in at Dr surgery or dentist just to prove if I've taken time off fir an appointment I have proofs.

Fluffyears · 25/03/2015 22:58

Ok that made no sense lol. Late and tired!

Unexpected · 25/03/2015 23:08

Sign of the times I think - no experience, positive or negative, is valid unless it has been documented on FB, Twitter or Instagram (or preferably all three).

IAmACuboid · 25/03/2015 23:09

To be fair, waiting around for X-rays can get very dull, she might have been bumped by more urgent cases, and ended up sitting there thinking "hmm what can I do to pass the time....I know! I'll take yet another fabulous selfie!".
Plus, as pp said, she might want to prove she was genuinely there.

ApignamedJasper · 25/03/2015 23:16

No, it wasn't a work thing as she doesn't work! I get the wanting support thing, totally understandable, but it was quite a smiley 'flattering' selfie! I probably am jealous that it is physically impossible for me to take a good photo selfie or otherwise bu aren't I :D

Have you seen the #hospitalglam campaign? It was started by someone with a chronic illness to allow others with chronic illnesses to share pictures of themselves during their daily lives - which often involves the hospital.

For us a x-Ray or test may be a monthly or weekly thing, not just after an accident - so sharing photos normalises our lives a little.

ImGoingForATwix · 25/03/2015 23:44

It's a slightly upgraded version of the attention seeking hospital fb check in. I think it's weird too, unless done in jest.

prawnballs · 25/03/2015 23:46

Exactly why Facebook is utter shiiiite!!
Different perspectives entirely.

SaucyJack · 25/03/2015 23:57

Yes selfies are annoying..... but less annoying than people who get the hump over what other people put on their own personal FB pages.

An' it harm none, do what thou wilt.
