Have been ill the past two days a nasty cold am feeling much worse today and also have an upset stomach ( i have ibs) which has been triggerd by taking cold medicine. I usally try to stick to more natural rememdys . I took the medicine to try and feel better for my shift tommorow , which is my first shift this week the next is sat.

I feel embarressed calling in and saying i have a cold . On the one hand i think i should just go in and try to manage. The otherhand i do feel really crappy with dry throat congested have pressure in my head been going hot and cold feeling achy and the past little while feeling sligthly shaky/ shivery. All i want to do is sleep but unable to get comfortable due to being so congested kept myself and my oh awake last night sneezing and blowing my nose.

The levels of sickness absence are quite high at work so i dont want to pee them off .

I have had 2 periods of sickness since i started there last year august.

I was off two weeks ago for one day due to stomach pains and sickness( i dont think this was ibs related). I have been under stress latly so it was noted down as possibly stress related . my next shift was a few days after which by then it had passed and i was well enough for.

The last time i was ill before that was end of november due to a viral infection which i missed two days and was prescribed antibiotics by my doctor. This was following me having a cold ( which hapoend to be on my days off) and going into work for my next shift after i thought i was feeling better .

I generally go into work with a mild cold ( taking care to take hamd samitiser with me)) or a mild ibs flare.up or just feeling less than 100% . I have done so in the past month or so and on many occasions. I just feel on this occasions i could really do with the rest. I work in retail and be dealing with members of the public directly.

I just feel nervous calling in after being off so recently and with the high sickness level there. It goes without saying i dont want to leave my collgues in the lurch and feel guilty. I do enjoy my job and the people i work with

i read an article recently about flu. based on blood samples, adults get flu once every few eg 2 or 3 years, but often the people themselves described it as a bad cold, so it was indeed 'mild flu'. i was surprised as i also thought 'mild flu' didnt exist.

get well soon op

i just googled it, my mistake, people under 30 every 2 years, over 30 every 5 years.
considering i only think i've had flu twice, i was surprised.

To Those that have said a cold is a form of virus and can affect everyone diffrently i agree its all relative.

Jemimapuddlepup exactly. tiggytigtape you hit the nail on the head.

by the windsailors hope you feel better today

Lusty busty feel better soon i would personally say to take it off for your eye alone ( but its up tp you and personal circumstances to make that desciscion) your cold sounds like a heavy one. In regardds to your eye it sounds nasty if you are unable to drive with it have you had it checked out by your GP? X

Hi, sorry temporary I crawled under the duvet and stayed there!! Spoke to the pharmacist last night and got some cream, been soaking it in hot water all day and now it's just a mammoth stye Sad so fingers crossed it's gone tomorrow. Fortunately (I think!!) the boss's wife has the exact same symptoms as me and she had yesterday and today off work too... Makes me feel more justified I think.

Hope everyone feels better tomorrow!

I was diagnosed with swine flu when that was doing the rounds. I had stuff I really didn't want to cancel and the doctor told me not to, but to take the usual hand washing precautions and not to hug anyone.

I felt like death warmed up and just wanted to crawl under a duvet for a week but the show went on. It can be done.

It all depends on the sickness policy of your employer, I suppose. My employers policy is v generous, but is open to abuse. End of the day if your too ill to work dont go in.
