girls school shoes last a few weeks because the heels are so thin..

have you noticed that so many school shoes have unsuitably thin heels that seem to not last long at all. dd isn't heavy handed the way she wears shoes either but the heels are so thin they only seem to last about a month. been to a few standard school shoe suppliers but so many are more like bloody pumps rather than practical shoes made to last, miffed to say the least

Could you not get them re-soled (or is it reheeled) at a cobblers?

Madamecastafiore · 24/03/2015 18:29

Get Kickers they last forever.

jeanswithatwist · 24/03/2015 18:30

no, they don't look l kind of heel that can be and even if i did, they would need to be reheeled regularly which in turn would mean i may as well buy a new bloody pair with the cost of constantly reheeling them Grin. worth paying out for some kickers as the underside of those last for ages in comparison

Or doc martins

tarashill · 24/03/2015 18:49

Save the receipts, the shops have to refund you if shoes only last a few weeks.

missymayhemsmum · 24/03/2015 18:52

If school shoes only lasted a month of everyday use I would be returning them to the shop fr a refund/ replacement. But yes, too many girls shoes don't seem to be designed for real school playground life. Smeone must buy them I suppose.

jeanswithatwist · 24/03/2015 18:56

another good idea redex, i may get some of those next time. not cheap but cheaper than buying a new pair of school shoes each month...

I bought both my dds (12 and 8) Startrite school shoes last September and they're still going strong. Paid £50 each for them (Shock), but it's worth it as they'd probably be on their 2nd or 3rd pair of Clarks by now.

sanfairyanne · 24/03/2015 19:06

i buy clarks n just take them back for new ones (ie a free replacement) if that happens

AtomicDog · 24/03/2015 19:10

clarks and start rite don't even have heels as such, just all-in-one soles, like the boys' styles.

reni1 · 24/03/2015 20:53

We started buying boy school shoes for dd, she manages to destroy all others in days, except kickers, they last weeks.

CleanHankie · 24/03/2015 21:32

We've had the same problem with DD1, she also tends to walk to one side which doesn't help either. Pair of shoes per term was normal. However we got her some Toughees shoes from Amazon back in September and so far are lasting well. Had originally looked at Kickers but DD didn't like the designs

hooker29 · 24/03/2015 21:35

DD is 11 and went through 3 pairs of shoes since September.
She now has Doc Martens-which she loves-and I will NOT buy her another pair of school shoes until she is in year 11.......

reni1 · 24/03/2015 22:04

Doc Martens will be next if the boys' shoes don't survive half a term.

hooker29 · 24/03/2015 22:14

They're not cheap but they're bloody good! Waterproof too!
