Delivery drivers ringing doorbell then immediately banging on window of living room

Is it just me or does it wind anyone else up when delivery drivers do this? Just had a delivery from yodel and the driver rang the front doorbell then immediately banged on the living room window without first giving me a chance to get to the door. I remonstrated with him but not sure he understood. Yodel seem to have the worst delivery men.

Maybe he couldn't hear the doorbell and thought it was broken. I have a job that involves calling to people's houses. I always ring the bell and knock at the same time, because half the time I can't hear the bell and so I assume it's broken.

It's irritating. Same thing happens at our house: ring doorbell, bang on door immediately. When we had a dog he didn't hear the bell but went doolally whenever anyone knocked on the door. A pain.

I found a Yodel man in my lounge.

Didn't hear the door from the kitchen and wandered in to find him standing there vaguely in his yellow and green jacket.

Boundary issues??

Gabsdot, i see your point. It just feels like an invasion of privacy given that i am breastfeeding my baby at the moment. Our living room window is set well back from the road and i dont expect delivery drivers to use it rather than knocking on the front door.

KingJoffrey that is shocking!

Then why not just knock gabsdot45?

Pees me off too OP! One or the other is fine- hammering down the door and ringing the bell inevitably wakes a sleeping baby.

Pyjamasandwine · 24/03/2015 13:56

It's very intrusive.

king Jesus that's terrible. Scare the crap out of you.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 24/03/2015 13:56

Yes, I was surprised.

Nice bloke, though. And I did get my parcel in a timely fashion.

I'd left my 12 year old ds in the house - with the usual, don't open the door, instructions. The delivery people tried the door, then started knocking on the window, and then yelled obscenities through the letter box. Ds was actually pretty shaken up by the whole thing. The letter that they put through our door was for a different address in any case (we live at House no.7, this was a parcel for Flat no.7, House no.24*)

Next day, the same company came round with a parcel - again for Flat no.7. I pointed out that the post code was different. Oh, said the delivery man, but it's your address, you take it. I refused. He wanted me to sign that I refused. By this point, feeling somewhat narked, I refused to sign (yes, I know I was being unreasonable, but that parcel was nothing to do with me). He leant on the door bell for at least 2 minutes (which felt a lot longer).

  • I was going to make the obvious disclaimer that this isn't actually my house number.
lauren222 · 24/03/2015 14:11

I'm glad to hear that it would annoy most people too.

Put a note on the door stating please ring the bell and be patient

Meloria · 24/03/2015 15:45

They're idiots. Delivered a parcel to my friend today who is on crutches (now I feel a fool for sending a woman who can barely walk a parcel requiring her to get up and open the door) and kept trying to shove the thing into her hands which were busy...what with the crutches and all...to the point she fell over. We're writing a vicious complaint letter tonight. What's the point though? They're all self employed so if that one gets the sack another rubbish one will be along in a tick.

Our takeaway delivery drivers do that. Scares the life out of me! I don't mind though, they're just doing their job and presumably want to get in and out asap.

cricketballs · 24/03/2015 17:45

There was a documentary the other year about delivery drivers and the targets/routes etc they have to meet or face financial consequences/warnings/loss of job - after watching it I became a lot more sympathetic to their working practices
