He was, think he had about 2 weeks off work and was still hobbling for a couple of months. He said it was a burning pain.

Mommypoppins · 24/03/2015 10:24

I was hobbling yesterday it's worse if I have to walk anywhere , thanks for sharing did he feel tired and unwell.

Yes, shingles is painful and can make you feel wiped out for weeks. It's related to the chicken pox virus so be careful not to be around anyone who hasn't had chicken pox, especially adults.

Seeline · 24/03/2015 10:55

I've known lots of people have shingles, but not in their foot I have to say.
It normally follows the line of an individual nerve, which leads to the burning, aching pain. My Mum still got neuralgia in the area for a long time after the actual illness had passed Sad
It is horrible and really wipes people out.
People can only catch chicken pox if they come into contact with the open blisters - so keep your foot to yourself Grin
Lots of rest needed.
Did the GP give you any anti virals or painkillers?
Hope you are feeling better soon,

JellyM · 24/03/2015 10:59

I had shingles on my foot too. Doctors didn't beleive it. It started as a mild itch then my foot started to swell and toes turned black and blue with spots around the top of the foot. I felt so unwell, temperature, shivers tiredness. I was off work for over 2 weeks with it. Hope it clears up soon x

Mommypoppins · 24/03/2015 11:10

Thank you I'm very grumpy tired and run down whilst trying to look after children. I have been given some medicine and definitely keeping my foot to myself as my children have not had chicken pox.??

MabelSideswipe · 24/03/2015 11:14

I have had it in my jaw. Just as I was recovering from chicken pox. The pain was horrendous and I was as miserable as sin.

VenusRising · 24/03/2015 11:15

Are you going to get your dcs vaccinated against the chicken pox then op?
I ask as they should be exposed to your foot now if not. CP when older is much nastier then when they're young.

However, the vaccine does the trick, and they don't have to be sick at all.

Be careful not to infect pregnant women or old people with your shingley foot!

Sorry to hear your feeling so wretched, and hope it clears up soon for you.

Mommypoppins · 24/03/2015 11:35

I'm not sure what to do about the kids as my eldest is nearly 10, a mother at the school has offered to walk my dd down to the juniors for the rest of the week so I can avoid everyone and tbh I'm so tired it's hard work walking anywhere as my foot throbs and swells.

Aibu and selfish? I will get her some flowers or chocolate as she has offered for the rest of the week I just feel guilty.

frankie001 · 24/03/2015 11:50

You aren't being selfish. You are ill and doing the right thing. Rest up

Redcherries · 24/03/2015 12:25

I have it on my face at the moment, sometimes it itches, or burns other times feels like being stabbed. The scariest is when it goes numb, the whole side of my face.

I'm feeling knackered too, but have good days and bad so feel like a fraud! Feel utterly wiped today but have lots planned between working from home, the house needs a good clean and I told the kids we'd go underwear shopping after school - I felt well when I planned it all earlier!

Are you finding the blisters clear then new ones appear. I hope the children are being good for you x

Redcherries · 24/03/2015 12:32

Oh yes.. how long have you had it? I'm going on for 4 weeks and have a secondary infection, they think because I am immunocomprimised. I wondered if you dr gave you an idea timeline wise...(Fed up!)

Mommypoppins · 24/03/2015 12:49

I was told I had it yesterday I noticed the blisters at the weekend three days ago it's red and still there are two blisters, I keep bursting into tears I just feel so tired.

I'm also waiting for blood tests today to get the all clear as I have had other health issues, is it normal to keep crying.

OP posts:
Redcherries · 24/03/2015 13:09

Yes, that's something they warned me about! I'm having very down and ill days when I've been tearful and low, they seem to be worse when the blisters are there, the days I wake up with none seem to be better. Today is my third crop of new blisters but it is because I have such poor immunity rather than normal.

Is it antiviral cream you've been given? Definitely take the help you've been offered, I'm sure you would do the same in return!

Redcherries · 24/03/2015 13:09

Waiting for results won't help, I hope they are the best case scenario x

Mommypoppins · 24/03/2015 13:17

Thanks Redcherries no I been given aciclovir ,to apply five times a day.

They never warned me about the crying oh well I'm sure I will get through it just lots of chocolate , bubble bath and tissue.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles Redcherries I hope you feel better soon , my poor dh is not sure what to make of me really.

I'm just waiting now for the blood tests it feels like forever, just called them and the are closed to the afternoon.

VenusRising · 24/03/2015 13:37

I wonder would vitamin b12 injections do you any good.

Ask for a blood test at your GP. They'll arrange them if you are deficient.

Poor you. Rest as much as you can and don't worry about asking people for help.

Try and give your kids the CP if you're not going to get them vaccinated, though you can ask about the vaccination at your GP appointment for your blood test.

Lj8893 · 24/03/2015 13:37

Oh I do feel for all you poor ladies with shingles. I have had it 3 times and it really is bloody awful!! I still have a large scar on my tummy from the first time when I was 16.
Take care of yourselves.

whippetwoman · 24/03/2015 13:44

Poor you, it is awful. I had it on my face, very close to the surface of my eye which was scary as I had to go to the doctors repeatedly as they wanted to check it hadn't spread. I have NEVER been so miserable in my life as I was when I had shingles on my face. It burnt, it itched, it just really hurt. And I looked absolutely horrific. It is very unpleasant and you have my total sympathy.

ChampagneAndCrisps · 24/03/2015 13:45

My poor daughter got it right beside her anus. She was young, and it was when school was restarting after summer.

The doctor didn't believe me, and was dumbstruck when we showed her.

She was given acyclovir cream to begin with, but my SIL told me the tablets would be better. The drug is meant to be started before the rash comes out.

DD did make a full recovery - hope you do too.

TrinityRhino · 24/03/2015 13:59

gecko had shingles when she was 3. She'd had a mild dose of chicken pox when she only 3 weeks old. Then she had chicken pox again when she was 2 then shingles when she was 3. on her lower back. Clearly following a nerve. Poor lamb , it was horrid. my mum used to get shingles regularly.

Redcherries · 24/03/2015 14:45

Hahaha, I hope you've not reacted the same way Mommy but this thread has made me feel weepy all over! Definitely a bad day!

The Dr said the chance of passing it on was minimal (DH hasn't had CP that he or his mum know of but he was the only one out of 4 siblings not to) but to avoid pregnant or ttc women and newborns, is that the same advice as you?

Chocolate and a bubblebath sounds like a good plan!
