To not want Ebay sellers to model the things they're selling?

It puts me off! I was just looking at a nice pair of ankle boots for myself...they're listed as brand new without tags and they certainly look it but in half the pics, the seller is wearing them! I've seen it a lot.

I don't need to see a boot on someone's foot! I can judge what it looks like without that.

I agree - it puts me right off!

Furyfowler · 23/03/2015 13:13

I would normally agree, butatm I'm struggling to sell a wedding dress and reckon it would do it justice if I took a pic of me wearing it as it looks sooo much nicer on.

MissWimpyDimple · 23/03/2015 13:14

I completely agree. Mainly with shoes though. Yuk!

MrsFlannel · 23/03/2015 13:16

Fury that would be ok....I've seen some people put an acutal wedding day pic of themselves wearing it...sometimes with their head cut out of the frame.

afaik it's not always what it seems. I thought that modelled shoes were there to attract a certain type of customer .

ursuslemonade · 23/03/2015 13:20

Someone sells brand new, never worn knickers (thongs), but wears one anyway on the pictures. She says the ones she sends are never worn but it looks so wrong.

MrsFlannel · 23/03/2015 13:20

Megl no...these are a particular brand. THey're not worn in...they're new! I know the shots you're talking about though. Wink

I agree. It's like food photography. There's an art to taking a photo that makes the subject - clothes, food - look good. Take a snapshot like a normal person and it looks like a dog's dinner, or a sack of potatoes in a dimly lit room. Also I want my clothes to arrive and I sort of want to pretend it's 'new', to me, and seeing someone wearing the item breaks that little illusion for me.

I also think it's shite when they throw it on the floor and take a picture there. Oo. Nice kitchen tiles. Nice to see I'm buying clothes you put on the kitchen floor. What's wrong with a coat hanger?

Or the garden. What's that all about? I want that 'excellent condition' item in excellent condition, but sure, throw it on the lawn and get a picture of it next to your flower bed, or hang it on the rough wood fence and give it plucks.

askyfullofstars · 23/03/2015 14:15

Haha, I was just having a lunchbreak mooch on ebay and found a dress where the main pic was of her feet and the carpet.....the modelled pics also look bizarre, seriously just stick it on a hanger.

MrsFlannel · 23/03/2015 14:15

Bell yes! Baby clothes spread out on a carpet! Er....no thanks!

I agree, most people don't look that good modelling the clothes they're selling...

With the shoes, if you were buying them from a shop you wouldn't know how many people had worn them to try them on... and it's quite likely any eBay seller (unless selling shoes as a business) had at least tried on shoes before selling them, so I don't see the issue. But at least now you know they've been worn at least briefly and can avoid buying them!

Sheitgeist · 23/03/2015 14:33

Lots of clothes look better on, though... you get a better idea of length/ drape/ fit.
I am an ebay seller and have got my (tall, slim, young) daughter to model my old clothes. Maybe I ought not to!

If I modelled them myself, though, they'd definitely NEVER sell Grin

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 23/03/2015 14:34

The knickers sold as unworn with the picture of them being worn is just to get round eBay rules about worn underwear. They will be VERY worn,

ToysRLuv · 23/03/2015 16:07

I have been thinking about this exact this thing. I never model anything I sell. Some people just have no clue..

MrsFlannel · 23/03/2015 17:00

Sheit I don't think it's as bad with clothes somehow....jeans I'm a bit weird about but a cardigan or something...not bothered. Would rather have them on a dummy though.
