AIBU to be a bit freaked out by the random pork pie in my garden?

That's it really.

My DP and I have been away for the night and when we returned yesterday, I checked the back garden (which gated and locked, away from the road in a quiet residential area) and was a bit taken aback by what I found...

Our plant pots were strewn across the patio and there was a solitary pork pie, just sitting there.

So as not to drip feed, I'm a bit freaked out because (this will sound strange...) we lost my Great Grandmother on Christmas Eve and she absolutely adored pork pies. So much so that when she died we scattered a few on the coffin instead of roses - don't judge us for this. We're otherwise quite normal. Anyway.

AIBU to be a bit freaked out by this random pork pie? Where did it come from? It looks quite fancy, maybe an artisan pork pie? It's a small one, but way to heavy for a cat. Why is there a pork pie in my garden?

How odd. I have no answer.

Sometimes magpies do try and pick stuff up and fly off with it, then it turns out to be too heavy and drop it.

Maybebaby2015 · 23/03/2015 09:15

Cats! Naughty pie loving cats!

Probably a fox that got startled

Seeline · 23/03/2015 09:16

Cats or more likely foxes

Fullpleatherjacket · 23/03/2015 09:17

Foxes.

We find all kinds of random shit they've abandoned Hmm

catsmother · 23/03/2015 09:18

I was going to suggest cat too ... I really doubt a small pork pie would be too heavy for one to cart off and the meaty savoury smell would be very attractive to many cats. It may have been spooked before it got a chance to start eating it. Mine have brought back adult rabbits before now which are heavier than a pork pie and once brought back an uncooked lamb shank (presumably from a neighbour's kitchen) which must be about the same weight as a small pork pie.

PannaDoll · 23/03/2015 09:19

That helpful diagram has made my Monday. I have no answers but would be creeped out too. Most likely cats or foxes but woo woo how spooky.

BananaHammock23 · 23/03/2015 09:19

It looks a bit heavy for a cat? We have one semi-stay/obviously not stray cat but he can't even jump the fences. Maybe it is a fox....

Or maybe it's been dropped from heaven? Hmm? Hmm?

That is nice and weird. Probably animals, but odd all the same.

On another note, I saw a fresh dog turd in the street with an American flag on a cocktail stick standing atop it.

There's obviously something strange going on out there....

OnlyLovers · 23/03/2015 09:24

Well, I don't have the answer but I think it's either a fox that got tired of carrying it, or your late great-grandmother telling you she's fine and thank you for the pork pies at her funeral.

I think scattering her favourite pies on her coffin was a lovely thing to do. Smile

ahbollocks · 23/03/2015 09:26

I think someone has fence hopped aka running away from someone and has knocked your plants on the way down, dropping their late night pork pie snack. A classy cat burglar perhaps

ahbollocks · 23/03/2015 09:26

really sweet your pork pie scattering btw :)

BananaHammock23 · 23/03/2015 09:28

The possibilities are endless. I just feel extremely perturbed by this pork pie. I actually lost sleep over it last night. Don't mean to be woooo but... maybe it's a sign?

Thanks for your kind words re the pork pie scattering. They made a terrible clunk when they hit the coffin leaving us all hysterical with laughter and the vicar slightly disturbed.

I do think if she had access to pork pies from the afterlife she probably wouldn't waste them vandalising my garden. She would obviously eat the pork pie.

the pork pie scattering sounds lovely!

Cats - I've seen one carry off a whole leg of lamb that was left to rest before carving, so a pork pie is perfectly possible for a cat.

Grin Love it.
LaurieFairyCake · 23/03/2015 09:47

A bird carried it and dropped it on your plant pots

Your grandmother told him to Wink

magimedi · 23/03/2015 09:53

I would also vote for foxes.

Your grandmother must have been an amazing woman.

I'd like to ask my children to drop (full) gin bottles on my coffin - but I know they would regard it as a criminal waste. Grin

I once came home and found bones in my fireplace. Once I had banished wild horror scenarios from my imagination I realised they were takeaway ribs dropped down the chimney by crows or magpies.

DoggyDaycare · 23/03/2015 10:05

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother, she sounds lovely.

We live in South London and have a nightly losing battle trying to stop our dog eating pork pies.

A local chap leaves them across the local common at dusk every evening as part of his religious observance is to feed the foxes and increase the number of rats around

I do wonder what religion saves foxes by feeding them pigs Confused but he is a harmless enough sort who is often being shouted at by other dog owners, so I leave him to it.

Our dog realises if we see one in his mouth we will take it off him and throw it away, so he tries to get one and eat without moving his jaws so we are none the wiser, but drool starts pouring out of the sides of his mouth giving the game away.

TheCatsFlaps · 23/03/2015 10:17

That's hilarious DoggyDaycare, our dog used to do the same with satsumas Grin

BananaHammock23 · 23/03/2015 10:28

Blu - cracking up about the bones in the fireplace! I'm a mess about a pork pie. I think I would have keeled over if I'd found a pile of bones in the fireplace!

Thanks for all your lovely replies about my gran – she was a bloody good egg. I just can't understand why she felt the need to vandalise my garden while sending down a pork pie?

My DP is currently wandering round the house 'talking' to gran, which is quite funny. She's CONVINCED the pork pie is a message of some kind Grin
