This usage aspect has always got up my nose. I just think it's lazy and vaguely disrespectful when "thankyou" is just as easy to say and has a more polite ring to it.

Sorry if this is a massive irrelevance folks. It's been one of those weeks at work. I'm tired and struggling for a subjectSad .

YABU!

I use it all the time, it's an accepted e-mail sign off at work (financial sector) and I usually use it in a friendly way.

'Cheers a big ears' is used on a regular basis in this house Grin

Cheers

EauPea · 20/03/2015 21:03

That is just a Brizzle thing I think Eau - I was delighted when I found that out when I moved there for uni!

JohnFarleysRuskin · 20/03/2015 21:11

I do it!

Knowing it annoys some people - like Xmas- makes me do it more.

Sorry op :)

OwlCapone · 20/03/2015 21:11

I wish people wouldn't say "gets up my nose" when they mean "annoys me"

RocketInMyPocket · 20/03/2015 21:16

Is this a joke Confused

WombleGravy · 20/03/2015 21:59

You sound ludicrously snobby TBH *OP. Even my mother doesn't flinch at 'cheers' Grin

MyHaloIsChokingMe · 20/03/2015 22:09

I say "cheers" at work a lot as do my colleagues. I'm a Headteacher from Scotland. Shoot me now OP. We do use please and thank you when speaking to children. I am lazy and ungrateful in your small minded world though. Cheers Wine

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2015 22:18

YAB snobby.

serin · 20/03/2015 22:25

It's 'Cheers fella' in my end of Manchester

meglet · 20/03/2015 22:33

cheers 'n' gone is wonderful.

I usually say 'cheers' if doors are held open.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 20/03/2015 23:04

I use it as informal email signoff too. To friends mostly, or to colleagues who know me well.
And I also use it for thank you.

Cheers!

FuckItBucket · 20/03/2015 23:05

Cheers is normal. It's used everywhere

maggiethemagpie · 28/03/2015 19:28

I like to say cheers followed by the clink of a wine glass...

DidoTheDodo · 28/03/2015 20:02

I like "bung ho!" instead of "hello" and feel it is simply not used enough.
