you're off out locally in the car to do normal day to day jobs or family activities. How long do you drive for and think it still be local to you? Iyswim?

I think driving for more than 45mins to go somewhere like a soft play, shopping, country park is too long for a normal everyday week activity. My dh thinks differently and thinks it's reasonable to drive for up to and hour and a half to get to somewhere. What do you think? Who ibu?

We live in the South East and can be in central London within 45 mins (train). Because everywhere is so congested we just wouldn't have to travel for 45 minutes for anything that you would do for day to day. Although if you go in rush hour it could take 45 minutes to do 10 miles.
For days out about an hour will get us to loads of places.
For weekends away your 5 hours does sound long, but it does seem to take forever to get to Norfolk. For me 3 hours is more of a reasonable distance leaving Friday night and returning on Sunday.

For a whole day out I would say up to an hour and a half each way, on the basis you will be there for at least 4-5 hours.

However, I would think if it is a short morning or afternoon in softplay, preferably half an hour but up to 45 mins on the basis driving through a town can be slow going.

I'm in the US but I wouldn't drive hours and hours for a normal day out.

Boston is 110 miles away, which takes about 2 hours - that would be a big day out for us.

I drive about 20 minutes to the city if I need something there, up to 20 minutes for shopping or dog walking.

The exception is skiing - I'll drive between an hour and 2 hours each way for a day's skiing. Any further and I'll find accommodation for the night.

How often lert do you drive to go skiing?... Is it like oncea month or twice a week?

We are in London and frequently drive over to france for lunch....

In winter we go skiing every other weekend I'd guess. When it's this cold and snowy it's that or take up ice hockey...

When in london we drove 2 hours to get to the coast. Depends. You both right!

It's a 2 and a half hours (foot down hard) drive to get to the ILs and i find these days that's pretty much my max. for a day out. 5 hours on the road in one day doesn't leave that much time (or mental energy) for much else.

But to answer OP - we're rural, and for me i'll drive up to an hour for a decent shopping trip, lunch out etc, and up to half an hour for the weekly food shop. A nice day out for the kids, zoo or country park or something - an hour ish.
