dd has just turned 9. she's 148 cm, which, as far as I can see is way off the centiles.

her weight is in line with her height.

shoe size is a size 5.

people kept saying she would slow down but she doesn't seem to be, at all.

hands and feet are the same size as mine, she's only a few inches shorter than me, her dad is 6f 4 though.

But i can't help but wonder how big she is going to be, she is lots bigger than her peers.

I was very tall at that age but stopped growing when I was 12 (5.9) when my period started.

Justusemyname · 20/03/2015 21:34

I've read if you double their age at two it gives you their fully grown height. DS is on course. Already bigger than me, dh, pil.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 20/03/2015 21:36

DD1 was always high up the centile height wise, but underweight. She didn't start her periods until she was nearly 15 and kept growing until she was 19 and 5 ft 10. Tiny feet for her height tho.. 4.5!

DD2 on the other hand..always on the 9th centile height wise, started periods by age 12 and stopped growing then. She claims she is 5 ft 3 Grin and feels it is unfair her sister got the extra inches!

I really don't think you can tell how they will end up. Children who are heavier tend also to be taller and start puberty earlier but that doesn't mean they will be bigger adults as they may stop.

DS2 was predicted to be 6 ft 5 , but abruptly stopped growing at 13 and 6 ft..thank god! His older brother is a disgruntled 5 ft 9 :D

My ds has just turned 12, is 5ft6" and a size 12 shoe! Bigger feet than his dad who is 6ft3".
He has recently overtaken me in height, I'm 5ft5" and is showing no signs of stopping, it's the feet I'm worried about:)

hannahwex · 20/03/2015 22:42

I am the same height now as when I was 11. Felt really freaky and thought I would never stop growing but I did. 5"8 so bit taller than average.

JoffreyBaratheon · 20/03/2015 22:47

When I had the red baby book for Son # 2, the health visitor said he'd be 6 foot 2 or 3 as an adult. I laughed. Load of crap, I thought. Now he is 21 and 6 foot 3.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 20/03/2015 22:50

I'm 5'6 but grew up in a family of short arses, so was always considered tall. I was apparently as big as a 5 year old when I was 2, as tall as my mum by 10, stopped growing about 15. My partner is 6'1, so expect our kid will grow above average. Then I look at my sibling, who at 4'11 didn't grow after the age of 10, so it's in the genetics!

revealall · 20/03/2015 23:06

Girls really do stop growing relatively early. So they tower over boys at primary and in year 7. By year 9 it's all over and the boys start looking tall. And they carry on.

I know of many girls( me included) with size 7 and 8 feet and a couple with 9's. She'll be fine.

Mumbehavingbadly · 21/03/2015 05:54

Mine were both like this. At one point around age 11/12 both girls appeared to be almost double the height of some of their friends. Then suddenly around 15 / 16 everyone else seemed to catch up. One dd stopped at just about 6ft. The other is just about 5.8 and now moans about being stumpy (rolls eyes - but she is a teenager so next week she'll be telling me she's fat, spotty hates her hair).
Don't make an issue out of it..and encourage her not to stoop... Stand tall and proud. She doesn't want to set herself up for a life of back pain. A growing dd is less of a worry than one that is failing to thrive.

LustyBusty · 21/03/2015 09:51

I don't know how tall I was at 9, but at w I was 3ft. I'm now 5ft11.5 with size 8 feet. I remember being head and shoulders above everyone at primary school, head above eveyone at secondary school and eyes above everyone at college. :-) I don't remember stopping growing, but at mums second wedding I was 11 and noticably taller than her - she's 5ft7. Dad is 6ft4.

ScathingContempt · 21/03/2015 10:30

My daughter was 5'7" when she left primary aged 11. She only grew one more slow inch and is now 5'8" at 19. She also hit puberty very early, periods started at 9 so if your daughter hasn't started yet just keep in mind it might be soon.

Some children just do their growing early, I think. We were like you when ours was younger, imagined this giant beanpole of an adult, but it evened out eventually.
