I have read some research on a member of a largish working class
family becoming rich.

The research says it can split families. What ids your experience?

It's seeker dressed up as Gabby Loggon

EveBoswell · 20/03/2015 12:35

If I were to win a few million pounds, I would tell no one. Well, I'd pay off my sons' mortgages and say it was my savings but would tell no one else about it. Of course, they'd wonder why I was going round the world every 2 years and have a Rolls Royce and a couple of servants in my new mansion... Grin. For everyone on here Flowers Wine

AtomicDog · 20/03/2015 12:37

Oh, gabby!
Sigh, those were the days

mariamin · 20/03/2015 12:39

Yes it causes me lots of problems. When my working class relatives visit me, they have no idea of how to behave around the butler. Very embarrassing.

Plarail123 · 20/03/2015 12:40

My grandfather (RIP) was the son of an Irish Gypsy who married an English Gypsy. He got RICH. Sent my dad to public school etc. he and my nan, English working class, were basically disowned by their relatives. I have loads of family that I don't know and have never spoken to. My sister and I are bothered educated and 'rich' but not really by today's' standards. So yes it does break up close knit families and communities. Just keep in' it real, like.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2015 12:45

I don't really get what's been asked. What's 'largish'? Where's the AIBU bit?

DinoMight · 20/03/2015 12:59

I think the OP means large-ish.

NerrSnerr · 20/03/2015 13:07

I'll tell you tomorrow after I have won Euromillions.....

PeachyParisian · 20/03/2015 13:14

I thought journalists still has to be able to spell?

TwinkieTwinkle · 20/03/2015 13:28

What are the seeker comments about?! As for the rich thing: my family are very comfortable but we have an uncle who is RICH through hard work. Makes no difference in how we treat each other, except he brings round expensive wines and champagnes GrinWine and spends a bit more on birthday/Christmas presents.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2015 13:35

There was a poster called 'Seeker' Twinkie so people are wondering whether this OP is the same person.

TwinkieTwinkle · 20/03/2015 13:37

Was seeker always seeking stories?

AlPacinosHooHaa · 20/03/2015 13:38

The wealthier members of our family do try and call shots yes, and very much feel and give impression they are better than others because they have made it.

Other wealthier members however do not do this and are just normal.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 20/03/2015 13:38

oh dear, is she a journo Sad

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2015 13:40

Not that I know of Twinkie. This must be a New Seeker.

WeirdCatLady · 20/03/2015 13:41

Can't wait to read about this in the Daily Mail "Cyber Bullies MumsNetters refuse to discuss wealth" Hmm

JoanHicksonMIfive · 20/03/2015 13:44

I don't know any lottery winners be they friend or family.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2015 13:44

If I won the lottery I wouldn't tell a soul.

Waltermittythesequel · 20/03/2015 13:47

Get your story edited before you print it.

Unless you're researching for some deplorable talk show or other. If that's the case, do carry on.

FWIW I'm loaded and I don't give a flying fuck about my family. Peasants. HTH.

ShadowStone · 20/03/2015 13:52

Has someone in your family suddenly come into money, OP?

Tunna · 20/03/2015 14:22

Are you P Diddy? Mo' money, mo' problems....

JoanHicksonMIfive · 20/03/2015 16:33

Jessie J?

Pyjamasandwine · 20/03/2015 16:41

sparkling yes you would be right there. There was a woman in the radio that had studied lottery wins and her research showed that those who 'went public' had a far harder time adjusting.

Op are you suggesting that only the working classes are daft?

If I won I would be as happy as a clam!

emmelinelucas · 20/03/2015 16:43

Nah, it's Michelle Dockery.

Pyjamasandwine · 20/03/2015 16:44

and I am dog rough working class.
