Very adventurous, physically able 8 year old. Parents are well off so cost of bikes not a factor or is it quite normal to not learn?

It is absolutely not something to get judgey about! Dd1 could ride a bike from age 5 ish. dd2 (8) can ride a bike but absolutely refuses to! She is very easily embarrassed and hates to try things or practice in front of anyone. I am hoping to find a quiet spot this summer to encourage her. It is not a sign of good/bad parenting...

I wasn't allowed a bike as a child (safety issues, living on a busy road) and got my first bike at the age of 32.
Not sure why OP is quite so judgy about this?

My DD can't ride a bike. She's 12
She is a county standard swimmer, a gymnast, plays netball, climbs and enjoys all sorts.
We live right in the middle of a huge town and her brother can't cycle (sn)so it's never been something we do as a family

Does it matter.

DH is 25 and can't ride a bike. Can't tie laces, either. (The bike thing doesn't bother me. The laces, however...)
