To buy a new iPad?

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 17:21

I will go with the majority view!

I already have an iPad. I want a new one because:

  • I want more storage space; I didn't realise quite how much I'd use it when I bought it 2 years ago.
  • the screen is cracked although it is useable.
  • the camera is rubbish !

On the other hand it works fine. I can afford it although there's always more things to spend money on ...

If it's deemed I am not BU - can someone recommend me one? Thanks :)

Can you afford it? If so then I'm always in the 'life's too short' camp and I'd buy it.
Get the screen of the old one fixed at a local shop, flog that one on ebay and make a few quid back to assuage the guilt Wink

Nanasueathome · 19/03/2015 17:31

I received an email from QVC earlier (I know, I know) announcing their special value item kf the day was an iPad air 2 on Sunday and asking if I wanted to pre order ( I have not ordered it)
They have advised it will be on 4 x monthly easy pay and comes with extras
It may be worth having a look on Sunday to see what you think before making your final decision

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 17:35

Oh that's interesting - what is QVC? I was thinking of just gettkng the iPad air and not the air 2 as the only difference seems to be the thumbprint and I have that on my phone and never use it!

Boofy27 · 19/03/2015 17:41

Will you husband allow you to?

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 17:41

Is that a joke? It's a horrible one if it is.

OP posts:
Boofy27 · 19/03/2015 17:51

It was a reference to a thread from last week that I assumed this thread refered to.

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 17:53

Whatever do you mean? What thread last week - why would my wanting a new iPad have anything to do with my horrible marriage? I am completely baffled - why have you brought this up?

OP posts:
Boofy27 · 19/03/2015 18:19

I assumed that your thread was linked to this one:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a2325890-AIBU-to-not-let-my-partner-replace-their-iPad

I'm sorry to have offended you. Good luck with the new iPad.

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 18:21

WTF? That poster isn't me Hmm That poster was a man for starters Confused

You didn't offend me. You have completely baffled me by saying you assume this thread is linked to another one which isn't my thread and I didn't even post on it, I don't think?

OP posts:
turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 18:56

Anyway, unpleasant posts aside - does anybody have the iPad air?

OP posts:
Walkingonsunshine00 · 19/03/2015 19:00

I have the iPad Air, no difference really to my friends ipad 4

Nanasueathome · 19/03/2015 19:00

QVC is the home shopping tv channel
Are you in the UK?
Can also look on line at their website

JanineStHubbins · 19/03/2015 19:07

I know you've a lot going on at the moment OP, but you've posted a bit recently about feeling that you don't manage money well and need to budget more.

In light of this, is the iPad necessary? Could you maybe try to free up some space instead?

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 20:07

I have been worried about money as my husband controlled everything but in light of this I've discovered I'm actually fine at it.

It's nerve wracking at first but certainly I can afford an iPad - hence why I posted.

OP posts:
Littlemonstersrule · 19/03/2015 20:38

If you have a working one then it would be way down the list of purchases given you have no job and have posted lots about money and budgetting or lack of it.

AtomicDog · 19/03/2015 20:46

I think your life is having a lot of upheaval atm. Leave it four weeks, then if you can still afford it, and have no other priorities, then okay, but it.
But I think after separation, you may find lots of unexpected outlay in the beginning.

ScotsWhaHae · 19/03/2015 20:50

Wtf? That's really not on to be raking through previous posts and dragging up shit the op hasn't brought into this thread. Poor show guys.

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 21:04

Little it's true I have posted about money. Obviously I wanted to ensure we would be okay.

However I have not posted loads about budgeting or lack of it - I've started ONE thread in 'money' and that was when I thought we would have around £1500 less than we have.

Seriously - if I wanted my other threads being brought up I'd mention them. As it is, people are outright mistaken or making up stuff - what the hell? Hmm

OP posts:
JanineStHubbins · 19/03/2015 21:10

You can't dictate what posters do or don't remember about your previous posts unfortunately.

And I don't think it's true that you've only posted once about money in the last while. You contributed a lot to the thread about people buying 'stupid things' along the lines that it was like an addiction and you couldn't help yourself. I remember because it struck a chord with me - I'd never thought about consumption in that way before.

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 21:17

You might also remember that I said in that thread I'd never been in debt or taken it to extremes but I could see how others did.

I know it's frightfully bad form but since some seem to be taking a remarkable interest in my life I will explain as simply as I can that I am wealthy, partly due to my husbands salary and partly because my parents were wealthy and died young. On and that inheritance would have been split down the middle but my brother killed himself so I got the lot.

Lucky me.

Of course, most of this wealth is tied up in property and initially my husband wasn't being very cooperative so despite sitting in a home worth easily half a million i was struggling for actual cash.

That has thankfully changed.

It's true I have to keep an eye on finances more now but given the amount of usage the iPad has it is something that is fair to spend a little on. I'm possibly thinking of replacing it within the next six to eight weeks.

I do hope that clears matters up. I recognise I can't control what people remember but it is disconcerting when it gets dragged onto harmless threads. I would rather like to forget my marriage for a moment, please.

OP posts:
JanineStHubbins · 19/03/2015 21:19

Great. Go for it then.

LMGTFY · 19/03/2015 21:22

Have you considered an android one or are you strictly an apple person? When I replace my ipad I'll get an android for more flexibility and control over what I can add to it/do with it.

RJnomore · 19/03/2015 21:24

Hey turq

You want it, you will use it, you can afford it (and you know now what you can afford Wink) so go for it.

I'd check the qvc deal as well though, no point paying any more than you need to for anything.

turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 21:25

Well I'd prefer to know how to free up space! Obviously I don't want to spend money if I dont need to but the iPad is really the best friend I've got.

I have kindle books on there, movies and TV shows, my banking, Pinterest (I'm an addict!) photos and videos, all the TV apps as I watch TV on it (don't have an 'actual' TV) and organisation apps and mumsnet of course ... :)

OP posts:
turquoiseamethyst · 19/03/2015 21:27

Sorry - cross posts. I am an apple addict I'm afraid. My friend had a galaxy tab I used a few times but didn't really like it; I just found it so faffy.

Will look into qvc. It isn't urgent-urgent as obviously mine is useable, I just am noticing it getting a bit on its last legs :)
