AIBU to want to buy a Vitamix at £++ rather than the cheaper versions

Have got it in to my head that I really need the extra horse power in the motor of a Vitamix to get green smoothies reaaaally smooth.

Initially was going to get the Magic Bullet 900, but now that seems so inferior.

Am sl concerned that it will be just another gadget consigned to the cupboards. Anyone got one & can vouch for the necessity of spending the extra ?

We've just ordered one from QVC, it should arrive in the next couple of days. I'm very excited! no help

VERY pricey. Got mine on offer for £350 at Costco.

Mine has lasted 5 years so far and is in perfect condition. I cook soups, it makes ice cream and the smoothies are, well, very smooth.

You must use it though and not let it be a dust collector. This will cause angst!

I can clean it by hand in under 45 secs but you need to do it straight away. NO dishwasher as recommended.

£350 ...that's a v good price. Was that a special offer ?

Nespresso machine has been gathering dust for 18 months but have just started using that today, so have high hopes of continuing in that vein with all the other gadgets, although Kitchen Aid is sitting forlornly in the corner still.

I have a nutribullet and it's very good. And I was very suspicious, but it won me over (was a gift). But get what you really want if you have the cash!

MistressMia · 18/03/2015 22:26

Sorry yes NutriBullet was the other alternative, not the Magic Bullet.

In the Vitamix though everything comes out smoother supposedly and it can do ice creams etc.

I'm not actually convinced that I am going to use it, so am veering towards the cheaper option, but then I think I'll always be thinking perhaps this disgusting vegetable sludge smoothie would be more palatable if it wasn't so bitty.

I wanted a will it blend Blendtec but got a Nutri Ninja instead. It's great! And the one serve/multi serve thing is great.

However, I have used my Kitchen Aid mixer a lot. I think you might be a gadget addict... Hmm

If it is not going to affect your finances negatively and leave you unable to fulfill commitments, go for it.

I am in the HEAVIEST category of vitamin users. My daughter is fed via gastrostomy for the majority of her intake - we burned out an average of 2 machines a year prior to buying a vitamix. Ours now gets used to blend her food (including meats/fibre/nuts) to a texture that can pass through a tube only a couple of millimetres wide repeatedly every day, and it is going strong still after over five years.

Definitely worth the spend. For the record, the Blendtec is of equally high quality.

*vitamix users.

Have you looked at the enpee blender? Just like Vitamix but cheaper. Very happy with mine.

Eyespy24 · 19/03/2015 05:32

They are £200 on Amazon.

Mominatrix · 19/03/2015 06:25

Vitamix is worth the £££. My parents have had one for about 20 years, and it is still going strong (they use theirs to make home made soy milk and soups). I use mine daily, and it is worth the price as I have burned out the motors on cheaper (but still relatively expensive) blenders in the past.

sPJPPp · 19/03/2015 06:42

I've got a vitamix and a thermix and a nutribullet.

Had the vitamix for 15 years, could do with a new jug but could buy two bullets for the same price. So now use a bullet alot of the time, very handy and easy to clean.

Mousefinkle · 19/03/2015 08:24

I advise the nutribullet. Smoothie in ten seconds, really. That's including dates which my previous blender couldn't even blend one bit. I use mine pretty much daily because I'm a smoothie addict, I also make a lot of raw vegan cakes so have to blend a lot of nuts in there. It's fantastic, best £100 I ever spent.

I have an Optimum Blender, which appears to be just as good as Vitamix but is about 1/2 the price. I really love it. I make a lot of smoothies, nut butter etc. We have used it many times a day for 18 months and it's going strong. It will blend anything completely smooth so far as I can tell.
