We are going to a 30th birthday party (in a pub) next week and the theme is black and white. I'm going to wear a black jumpsuit a friend of the birthday boy keeps messaging me saying "remember you HAVE to wear black or white'. I Know that! I'm not stupid, I can read the invite. My DH has recently put on weight and it on a diet- his black jeans and trousers are too small and we are in no position to buy him a new pair to wear once. He's going to wear a black shirt and dark jeans. Are we being unreasonable?

No but if you want to avoid attention, find a white hat for him. All anyone will see is the right colours.

formerbabe · 18/03/2015 18:41

No yanbu...I hate fancy dress or themes for adults...what difference does it make what colour clothing your guests are wearing!!?

LampingPolars · 18/03/2015 18:46

Well I'm black and he's white so we are already winning...

^^ Love this!

fattymcfatfat · 18/03/2015 18:57

Grin genius no need to dress up in colours then!
in all seriousness I think it will fine with dark jeans/trousers and a black shirt for your DH

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/03/2015 19:05

YANBU at all
I'd go in a red dress I hate theme parties almost as much as I hate fancy dress parties .... Could explain why I don't go out much ...

TheWintersmith · 18/03/2015 19:06

These themes piss me right off

I usually decline the invite go if I find there's a bloody theme

maninawomansworld · 18/03/2015 19:15

I usually decline if it's a theme / fancy dress too.
Hate it !

Cucumberisproofthedevilexists · 18/03/2015 19:30

YAAllBVVVU in not liking fancy dress you can prise my wonderwoman/pirate costumes from my cold, dead hands

However, in this instance, YANBU - he could wear white pants so if anyone challenges him... or carry a white handkerchief? And frankly, while I enjoy a good dress up, most fancy dress parties have a mixture of costumes from full out to token effort, and a good portion of people wearing normal clothes, so I doubt you'll be the only ones.

Wonder if the self appointed fashion police will turn us away at the door if I wear a navy mac...

DoJo · 18/03/2015 20:56

YANBU but how many versions of your username do you have?! Grin

LampingPolars · 18/03/2015 21:02

Haha, Dojo, quite a few it would seem...

Do have two names though and the posts I've made in the other one paired with this one would definitely out me but I can't remember my password to make this one my username again so have to keep writing it in the bar and autocorrect keeps changing it.

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2015 21:03

Ooh I don't like themes. Sad

Why are you namechanging for each post Lamping? Only your Op is highlighted.

LampingPolars · 18/03/2015 21:03

And that was a ramble that doesn't make much sense. I blame gin and sleepiness.
