I'm not sure why this is being celebrated as good news? It means more money sucked out box the economy so less to invest in something productive and even if you own a home it doesn't benefit you unless your selling and not buying another or downsizing.

I'd be all for higher inheritance tax. (I say this as someone likely to inherit)

Why would I be against it?

I'm all for a fairer society.

sPJPPp · 19/03/2015 20:11

Baby boomer haters is a lazy term, sounding like its just trying to shut people up.

I don't hate anyone, I'm very annoyed at the ingenerational equality and the successive governments that knew it was going to happen but did nothing to address it as it would be unpopular. The current government is also making the situation worse.

I don't care about inheritance, I just want house prices to be affordable and stop the widening between the haves and have nots.

Can't wait for the bubble to pop, hopefully it'll be in 2yrs when we come to buy.

BMW6 · 19/03/2015 20:28

Nobody, Nobody would turn down the chance to buy their own home even if it was detrimental to the generation to follow.
Those of you with the cats-bum-mouths would have done exactly the same. And still would, given half a chance. If you say you have/would not - I say you are a liar.

bucketofchicken · 19/03/2015 20:35

BMW6 - why is it so incredible to imagine that other people care about other people? It doesn't matter how wealthy I am, I will always feel it deeply unfair that the gap between rich and poor is widening. No, not everyone gives their money away but there are lots of well off people who vote for the party they believe will benefit the most, who campaign on issues, who lobby their MPs, who stand for election, who work for organisations battling inequality... The list goes on.

Why do some people really believe that anyone complaining about inequality is just jealous? It is bollocks. It saddens me that these people are stupid, selfish idiots can't comprehend that people care about others.

And you assume those with the 'cats bum mouth' are bitter renters. Are you really so shortsighted? PP have already said that they/their parents are owners but that they still 'get' this issue.

Primadonnagirl · 19/03/2015 20:43

There's another side of this though..We own our property ..have young adult kids who are renting .BUT both of our parents have had to release all equity in their homes to supplement income..so we won't inherit ( not that I am bothered about that) and may ourselves need the equity in our property at some time...so am I one of the baddies too or am I also hard done by?

bucketofchicken · 19/03/2015 20:47

No ones cares what you are Prima.

It's not about one individuals circumstance.

bucketofchicken · 19/03/2015 20:51

Sorry, pressed Go to soon.

If however there are great swathes of people having to release equity like how you're describing then that's a different matter. That's about how we can not expect to retire at 65 and then fund a life of another 25-35 years. That's about people downsizing perhaps, or better pension planning.

The whole thing is a bit titsup.

Thanks for that article. I think its all very worrying. I'm not sure why not many people are interested in this, its one of the most important issues with the country that is fucking so much else up.
