to think that people shouldn't put you off when you've got an interview.

DP has an interview for a new job. He is self employed and struggling financially - this would be a permanent job. He's been applying for loads with no luck but finally, yay, interview!

His family have done nothing but run the job down, the firm down, the location down. All on heresay as they vaguely know someone who works there and says 'it's shit' but they've worked there for nearly 10 years so it can't be that bad.

DP was so happy to get an interview and now he's not even sure about going for it as his family made him feel he would be stupid to bother. I've managed to boost him back up again and that he should go and see for himself and make his own mind up.

It's really made me mad. When I met him they'd been telling him he'd never get another job ever as he was too old and who'd give him a job... (early 50s).

FFS. They do appear to actually love him. Why did they have to piss all over his chips? In a weird way I wonder if it's because they don't want him to be disappointed, so think it's better to not even try?

Perhaps OP it is a (misguided) way to not build up his hopes too much but YANBU whatsoever because to me it sounds like they've always been putting him down. The key to every interview is being confident and therefore relaxed enough to give a good impression of yourself, keep doing what you're doing and let him feel ambitious!!

Best thing for him to do would be to not mention things like this to them and let him tell them WHEN he gets another job Smile
