to think we should put our suggestions for vote-winning policies to the policians HERE...?

They love a bit of MN, don't they?

Do we have a place for suggestions?

Here's mine (bit of a hackneyed one I'm afraid): Get rid of the term time holiday fines. They are unpopular, especially, I imagine, with the kinds of people who vote. An informal vote on MN last year indicated that well over half of people thought they were a bad idea.

So, what are your suggestions?

Not a policy per se, but I would vote for any party that was committed to searching for an alternative to neoliberalism. So long as the alternative wasn't some uber authoritarian elitist wank fantasy.

Scrap inheritance tax! I think it's pure robbery; the money's already been taxed. It's a disgrace.

Remove charity status for private schools and religious organisations.
Reverse privatisation of NHS. No more PFI.
Make the state preferred bidder in railway contract tendering.
Increase inheritance tax.
Massive public housing buikding project.
End zero hours contracts.

Also, great idea muminhants about free first degrees, or at least dropping the fees back down again. The costs now are ridiculous.

I forgot:

A thorough, completely free-ranging, unrestricted investigation into child abuse/corruption involving politicians and the powerful. Nobody should be untouchable. Followed by public executions afterwards.

I agree with scrapping inheritance tax.

People who inherit a lot would still have to pay a capital gains tax, which would be much fairer. The way things are at the moment, it's a tax on death, and by the time an estate has paid it's tax and been distributed amongst various relatives, children and grandchildren, they can see relatively little of the money that was intended for them, which is incredibly unfair.

I expect the amount HMRC sees wouldn't end up changing that much, because people wouldn't feel the need to strategically avoid having to pay inheritance tax when they die.

Raise inheritance tax. It's unearned income for the beneficiary and it's wrong to say it has already been taxed and should therefore be free from further tax unless you'd campaign against vat - that's a further tax on pre-taxed income too. Or corporation tax etc, because the money spent in shops has already been subject to tax. Doesn't make sense.

Yes to more social housing as well.

Raise taxes, not lower them. I'd even tax JSA by 2p or something so that everyone was included in the tax system. I'd restore universal benefits too, making sure everyone benefitted form the welfare state. It'd help stop people arguing against it.

Instant life imprisonment for anyone who says "long-term economic plan" and "the mess the last government left." (the last government left a fast growing economy, believe it or not, and a rapid rate of recovery from the effects of the global crash, and any problems 5 years later aren't their fault)

Save the NHS. Privatising by stealth is destroying services and will cost us more.

Save the libraries, spend money on increasing their use as community and cultural spaces for learning, children's services etc. I think it's too late for my idea of combining them with post offices though.

Put value back in to academic learning and the arts as well as vocational education.

Save the NHS. Raise taxes. Close loopholes. Chase dodgers. Stop blaming the recession or the deficit or Gordon Brown.

Build more affordable housing, come up with solutions that bring house prices slowly back to earth while we all catch up.

Embrace immigration and internationalism, stand up to racism.

Do your part to end the culture of fear that governs politics and the media. Stop trying to make people hate each other to distract them from the bigger picture. Be honest.
