To think we need new carpet?

Getting all new furniture in two rooms. Carpets have lots of big flattened areas where old furniture was and wont all be covered up by the new stuff.

Is there a magic way to lift the carpet back up where old furniture has flattened it?!

Your meant to use ice (in a bag) to get furniture foot indentations to rise out - not sure how that would fair with larger areas although I suspect over time it would rise of its own accord.

Thanks! Will give that a try!

I thought ice too but thought it was ice cubes not in a bag. You should Google it before taking my advice though. I thought the water lifted the fibres gradually.

Different websites say ice cubes without bag.

My Dyson does a wonder job at removing the furniture footprint marks but I guess a lot depends on the quality of the carpets and your hoover.

Spray it with water so it's damp and then use a cool iron over a cloth until it's dry. It should lift the fibres. Check first on a non obvious bit to make sure it's ok for your carpet!

I've used ice cubes, no bag.

Would it be worth cleaning the carpets first? If you don't have a vax carpet cleaner (which are brilliant and well worth the money) you could hire or borrow a machine. It's expensive to have people in to clean the carpet but the machines aren't much to hire.

Ice cubes without a bag are good for eg sofa feet indentations

You could hire a carpet cleaner for a day from a supermarket - the cleaning process should help the fibres stand up, and you'll have a better idea whether you really do need a new carpet

I wonder if getting your carpets professionally cleaned would lift the pile? My understanding is that synthetic carpets won't recover but natural fibre ones will.

Thanks everyone! Brill ideas Smile
