To eat a chorizo at 37 weeks pregnant

I am really craving chorizo. You're not meant to eat uncooked meats while pregnant, but I am 37 weeks now and do you think it would be that bad?

I have a particular chorizo in mind from an upmarket shop near me. You're meant to cut it into pieces to have at the start of a dinner party I think but I would eat the whole sausage myself.

You're supposed to cook chorizo?!

Really?!

I eat it by the sausage. I love it. I don't cook it...Just chop slices off and munch on it.

I never knew that it was supposed to be cooked.

rosepetalsoup · 16/03/2015 11:52

No, you aren't infinity. There are chorizo sausages for cooking that I sometimes buy which you are meant to cook, but they are different to what I'm talking about on this thread.

Cooking chorizo is less common, and the only type you need to cook.

Yup, there are different kinds, and they specifically say on the packet if you need to cook before eating. They usually look more like proper sausages than the sort of bendy ones you get from the deli which are fine to have uncooked.

I'm like you, Infinity, I usually slice off great chunks to munch on! Although when you do cook it all the lovely fat renders out and it goes crispy and melty and yum.

I'd avoid something like sobrasada in pregnancy though, but that's just me. Mmmmmm...sobrasada and honey on crusty bread....

Fluffyears · 16/03/2015 12:05

Cut it into slices and fry it's still delicious.

geekymommy · 16/03/2015 12:36

You could call and just tell them you wanted some chorizo. You wouldn't have to specify that you want to eat a whole sausage by yourself.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 16/03/2015 12:56

interesting i would hve cooked that one. sliced i eat how they come but saiage types I usually cook, of chorizo..

rosepetalsoup · 16/03/2015 13:38

I think cured meat is fine if from a massive manufacturer, I'd be slightly weary of home cured meats from a friend though. Some countries live on cured meats, if they caused problems I'm sure it'd have been bigger news.

InfinitySeven · 17/03/2015 12:24

Rosepetal You've put my mind at rest and I'm having a chunk to celebrate ;)

I hope you got some, too!

PrincessOfChina · 17/03/2015 12:35

I think the NHS recommendation is to freeze cured meats for 48 hours before eating raw.

MagicMojito · 17/03/2015 12:43

If your going to eat it, buy it from the fridge section. Avoid buying from the deli counter. Much safer ime xx

Littleturkish · 17/03/2015 12:46

Fried in cider and they are a thing of beauty!

rosepetalsoup · 17/03/2015 13:36

Fry chorizo with cubes of cooked new potatoes and then drizzle over cos lettuce and top with a poached egg.

Is thing of beauty and quick and easy supper.

rosepetalsoup · 17/03/2015 14:41

This has just turned into a chorizo fantasy thread now.

Slice chorizo thinly and layer it over Ryan Gosling.

It's fine! I'd starve to death visiting my husband's family in Spain if I didn't eat chorizo, jamon, lomo, etc when pregnant!

RizzoWasTheBestOne · 17/03/2015 15:18

YABU Only because I used to live chorizo but went right off it when I was pregnant and now I can't eat it as it makes me want to vom :(

RizzoWasTheBestOne · 17/03/2015 15:18

Littleturkish · 17/03/2015 16:36

Big chunks of chorizo and fried slowly with cider is most DEFINITELY good for pregnant women!
