The builders are in and I'm off work alone at home and very on edge. I think it would make their job easier if I did? I know they can't help denting walls and floors a bit, still I'm on edgeConfused

That's not bad is it?

Poppy seed bagel maybe?

Now if it were tomorrow I would suggest an irish coffee.

BellMcEnd · 16/03/2015 08:32

Wine is a bit heavy for 8am. Try a small gin and orange instead (one of your 5 a day!)

sP you have my sympathies. We have just finished phase 2 of the building works (due to be completed in approx 2067). Best of luck Wine

Bunbaker · 16/03/2015 08:33

I assume that this wasn't a serious question. Hide your valuables and go out for an hour or two.

We had builders in a couple of weeks ago and I just did some work from home, but having workmen around doesn't make me nervous.

maplebaconchips · 16/03/2015 08:33

You twonk, SPJPPp...no to the wine, and no to abusing poppies. Just go out, instead of getting plastered with strange people in the house.

kelda · 16/03/2015 08:34

And if it were a sunday, you could quite legitimately have a champagne brunch.

ImTakingTheEssence · 16/03/2015 08:35

Ive had a glass of wine in the morning before and im not an alcoholic, It was very nice. You have the week off and no where to be. I dont see the problem.

HearCerseiRoar · 16/03/2015 08:35

The milk of the poppy thing is a joke. It's a reference to Game of Thrones - the characters use it as an opiate, not for pleasure but for pain relief, usually to dull the senses during an operation Wink

No wine or milk of the poppy OP, get yourself out for a few hours.

kelda · 16/03/2015 08:38

Yes if you are havingyour arm chopped off, we'd allow you a drop of poppy milk.

Unless you're as hard as Jaime.

Mintyy · 16/03/2015 08:38

What are you doing about tackling your anxiety op? Agree with a pp who said to use this time off to make an appointment with your GP.

If you are so stressed about having builders in that you are thinking of turning to wine, then you must know that's not normal??

EleanorAbernathy · 16/03/2015 08:38

I'm drinking rum :)

But then I've just finished my last night shift and am off to bed soon.

kelda · 16/03/2015 08:39

At nursing school one of our tutors actively encouraged us to have a glass of wine after a night shift.

Feellikescrooge · 16/03/2015 08:41

Sounds like some people have lost their sense of humour! I would guess this is a lighthearted thread.

improbablesaint · 16/03/2015 08:42

of course it means you are an alcoholic

looks about

What?

kelda · 16/03/2015 08:43

Yes the fact that she has to post on here asking permission from a bunch of strangers to have a glass of wine definitely points towards alcohol abuse.

sPJPPp · 16/03/2015 08:44

Gosh I don't need to see a gp for being stressed with builders in the house!

I did kinda fancy a small glass, but will wait a bit.

I actually do want to see a gp for something else, but there are no appointments at all in the next three weeks, let alone one I could use with work and the a school run! This is for a huge 20 consultation roomed place!

Pagwatch · 16/03/2015 08:44

Champagne or Buck's Fizz in the morning. That's it. Then it looks like celebrating rather than just getting wankered.

improbablesaint · 16/03/2015 08:45

is this a welcome to mumsnet moment?

expatinscotland · 16/03/2015 08:46

Go for a walk. Take a Kalms.

improbablesaint · 16/03/2015 08:48

its not what you drink, its the need that is odd.
Mind you I never get these freaks who drink champagne for breakfast on Xmas day - weirdos. Give me a strong black coffee any day

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 16/03/2015 08:58

As PP's have pointed out, people don't tend to bat an eyelid at having Buck's Fizz or champagne with breakfast (I love an excuse for breakfast fizz Smile). Make yourself some eggs Benedict, crack open the champagne and it just looks like you're celebrating Wink.
If OP had a drink problem I hardly think she'd be posting on a parenting forum asking opinions/permission to have a glass of wine at 8am. She'd just do it.
OP I find having builders in bloody stressful too. So much so that I'm taking DD and going to stay at my dads 130 miles away at the end of the week when someone comes to rip out our shower. I wouldn't have a glass of wine at 8am but I would definitely bloody want one! And I'm pregnant and therefore haven't had a drink in 6 months so pretty sure I don't have a problem.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 16/03/2015 08:58

improbable I'm one of those freaks!

ThisFenceIsComfy · 16/03/2015 09:34

I don't think you have a drink problem!

More that a glass of wine so early will just lead to feeling a bit pants later on, or it would for me anyway. I am a bit of a lightweight though.

LongDistanceLove · 16/03/2015 09:39

Fuck it, it's 5pm somewhere Grin

Go out, get comfy in a coffee shop, and people watch.

Bunbaker · 16/03/2015 10:04

I love wine, but not at 8am. I prefer builder's tea at that time of day.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 16/03/2015 10:20

Well, I wouldn't recommend a glass of wine at 8am, but some of the responses on here are a bit OTT.
