...to feel slightly nauseous at all these cutsey mothers' day offerings?

So, my DSs have never been the most artistically minded of kids. although I appreciated their cards this morning, I know they were created under threat of losing screens for a week and involved, Oh at least 30 seconds effort. AIBU to wish these enforced acts of cloying devotion could be done away with?

My most precious artistic offering remains a rare picture I was presented with one day after school when my DS2 was in Year 1. mummy! He exclaimed joyously. I've drawn you the Grim Reaper!

DS's school kindly strongarmed all the children into creating Mothers' Day offerings, which is much appreciated as I'm a LP. Not only was there a nice card, there was also a kind of worksheet/ booklet thing that they had to write in. They had to draw a lovely picture on the front- it is indeed a lovely picture of me and DS, but I was slightly bewildered to see that DS had clearly labelled "ARMPIT" and "EYEBROW" on himself, with little arrows. No idea Confused.

She usually brings lively ones for my to play with. Must have thought I needed an easy life today.

I put a glass over it (cat under one arm) and slid a flat CD cover under it and it twitched. I briefly considered sending it to the person on the swaps thread who is probably never going to send me the thing I've swapped for. took it outside and put it under a bush. Maybe it was just pretending or was a bit stunned and is happily snuggled with his mousey friends and family.

Apparently DD and DH disagreed this morning as DD wanted to make me a Margarita in bed but DH wouldn't show her how. I didn't even know she knew what one was!

PeaceOfWildThings · 15/03/2015 23:10

...Or maybe Binky and his mousey companion are out there in my garden telling my cat to cough it up.

It's the facebook boasting that does my head in. I can't be arsed with it.

I apologize for even mentioning the following but it is not public like facebook is so not as gloaty. My DS is 16 so I am thankful he has done anything and it wasn't too bad.

My adult DD ordered flowers and a card which was specific to us.

I am so glad the days of home made are gone - neither of mine were that creative!

PeaceOfWildThings · 15/03/2015 23:28

My children don't like me posting about them on facebook, so I don't. None of their friends' parents seem to either.

It seems to be people with younger children who relentlessly post their child's every move. Or the ones who are talented and great achievers (but then I feel sorry for the 'less talented' ones who never seem to get a mention.

My kids are disturbingly keen for me to share their smallest achievement or witticism on FB. I predict a short and slightly sordid reality TV career for DS2.

MrsFionaCharming... Take your own advice! Firstly, you're trying to police the thread and secondly, the thread subject isn't particularly 'nice' and your comment wasn't nice either. Just saying. Leave people alone maybe?

tootired... Love the grim reaper picture, instantly recognisable... also the handspan thing, looks very zombie-ish.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 16/03/2015 10:36

ah yes facebook boasting.

I had a lovely bunch of flowers and we went out for dinner (its dd's birthday as well), but I'm not overly fussed on mothers day. My own mum has a gift list that all presents must be brought from and not stray from the list, for any occasion.

My facebook feed was full of flowers breakfast in bed, holidays and iphones! Hmm

vladthedisorganised · 16/03/2015 10:37

I love the grim reaper card.

DD didn't do a great deal either, other than giving me 1p 'since you never have any change'. I bought my own flowers (and MIL's), took DD to yet another party and took my dad grocery shopping. The grand finale was bringing flowers to my own mum's grave in the freezing rain.

I should really have avoided FB, where friends with similar aged children had all been taken for slap-up meals / luxuriant afternoon teas by their tots/DHs/ own mums and put up a zillion photos of the event.

Hey ho.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 16/03/2015 11:00

the handspan thing must have been on a teachers memo this year as dd made the same type of card at school. Mine didn't have a zombie theme though Grin

Fanfeckintastic · 16/03/2015 11:15

I always wonder why posting happy stuff on Facebook is seen as boasting here Hmm

Love the grim reaper card!
