A few weeks ago I spent five hours in total helping my friend get rid of her kids head lice.

They were riddled and it took forever to comb them through. Hmm

She is a bit clueless and I advised her to comb every few days to ensure everything had gone.

I've got them for a sleepover tonight, she's just dropped them off and said 'oh they've got lice again and I've not treated them yet' WTF!

My DD hasn't had them yet but it's odds on she will now. She has very long hair and I know it will be a nightmare.

What I should have done is grown a pair and told her to take them home. But as she's going out I just bit my lip!

I'm such a mug am I not?

She's probably hoping that you'll treat her kids hair again while she's out Hmm
I'm another one that would send them home and tell her why. When my ex brought round his dc with nits I wouldn't let them in the door. He got very cross with me and made out like I was being difficult for the sake of it! (One of the many reasons he's an ex Grin )
Selfish inconsiderate people!

Pyjamasandwine · 16/03/2015 18:05

Itching now.

What a cheeky bitch op you are being had here.

I personally couldn't bear not to treat them as find de nitting on a par with squeezing a huge spot! Very satisfying but she's still a cheeky cow as it's her problem not yours.

I am wierd I know. Does no one else find it pleasurable? Hmm

mommy2ash · 16/03/2015 18:07

i cant believe you let them stay i would have sent her home. what a cheek

justforonceanonymous · 16/03/2015 20:33

I do as well pyjama. Blush

Pyjamasandwine · 16/03/2015 20:36

just Grin

justforonceanonymous · 16/03/2015 20:40

Archery its still chemicals whether its an insecticide or not. And no nothing works. You only have to miss just one egg or the the hedrin to miss just one egg and its game over. Even if you do get them lice free it still doesnt stop the problem of other people not treating their kids hair. Dc school is rife with lice and to keep them lice free I would have to use Hedrin every week. Im not willing or able to do that so I do it with conditioner and a nitty gritty. Great if hedrin works for you but its not suitable for our family.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 16/03/2015 20:47

Poor kids. Your friend is a cheeky cow, personally I would have told her to take them home.

Pyjamasandwine · 16/03/2015 20:55

Defiantly conditioner works to keep the buggers at bay.

Also My dss never had them post hair gel.

Sethspeaks · 16/03/2015 21:13

I wouldn't care about having other people's children with nits round at all! I'd just wait till after they'd gone and see if any nits decided to jump heads and deal with them. There's not likely to be many and possibly none at all. It's nits not leprosy!

justforonceanonymous · 16/03/2015 21:24

I alway worry about using tree tree oil. Isnt it a carcinogenic? Im probably wrong.

Hair gel. Ive never tried that.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/03/2015 21:41

justforonce oh, absolutely, use whatever is best for you. (Though what do you imagine conditioner is made from, if not "chemicals"?)

SquinkiesRule · 17/03/2015 14:46

I don't know about tea tree being carcinogenic, but you can get organic from Holland and Barretts. I'd rather use that that Hedrin or other more chemically nit treatments. I just put a few drops in a bottle of kids shampoo it keep them at bay, and also a few drops in a spray bottle full of water. to style hair in plats.

SunnyBaudelaire · 17/03/2015 14:49

"Did she know that she had to wash all the sheets, spray the furniture, etc."

you do NOT need to do that for headlice, they are not scabies ffs.

YouPooPooBumBum · 17/03/2015 14:56

I want to know more about the pet head-lice in a box Confused

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 17/03/2015 15:02

We had lice once, I refused to use the chemicals. I did the nuvo method and they were gone gone gone. TG we've never had them again.

Grumpyoldblonde · 17/03/2015 15:02

I can find no reference to tea tree oil being carcinogenic - I think you probably have read about it being used as an anti bacterial substance in cleaners instead of other chemicals that may be carcinogenic.
Your friend was beyond cheeky and you should have turned them away. I actually rather enjoyed the spell when my daughter had them, grim fascination, we used to put on white tee-shirts and watch them fall on to us, we are weird though! I only ever used conditioner with a drop or two of tea tree in.

KateSpade · 17/03/2015 16:00

I feel stupid saying this, but lice are my absolute worst nightmare. Blush

My friends/parents have warned me 'DD will get nits at least once & you probably will! - deal with it'

It's making me feel funny just thinking about it!

SunnyBaudelaire · 17/03/2015 16:02

hmm well I must say that the first time I found one I freaked and nearly vomited. After a while I was combing them out blithely and cracking them with my nail against the comb. Almost as good as squeezing a spot!
So do not worry, you will deal with it if you have to.

mummytowillow · 17/03/2015 18:23

I didn't treat them, I'm just checking DD several times a day. Nothing so far. Wink

I've hoovered and changed her bed that's it. If we get them I'll deal with it!

BerylStreep · 17/03/2015 18:42

My Dsis had friends like that. She got to the stage where she wouldn't allow their children round to play, and quite candidly told them the reason was because she didn't want her children to catch lice as they didn't treat properly.

I thought the point about lice not living on sheets etc, was that the ones who naturally fall off hair onto sheets are almost dead anyway.

DinoMight · 17/03/2015 19:03

Actually, I would recommend washing sheets and clothes etc, scabies it isn't, no, but those little fuckers stay alive a lot longer than you might read about once they've left their host.

DinoSnores · 17/03/2015 19:37

If they have fallen off of the head, they might survive for a few days but are dying and no longer able to breed and lay eggs so can't cause a lice infestation themselves.

scarletforya · 17/03/2015 19:40

You shouldn't have let them in!
