To think that breakfast in bed is not at all nice?

When I wake up I have bleary eyes and a yakky mouth. I always need a wee immediately. Then I have to have 2 coffees before I can even consider eating anything. Who wants food as soon as they wake up?

Passmethcrisps - that is another thing the coffee is for. The smell wakes me up, whilst it is cooling a little I pop to the loo, get back into bed, grab book, settle in and wait for the food to be served. It is a lovely way to mark the start of non working days Smile

I now have a little courtyard garden... maybe summer breakfasts will be out there!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/03/2015 16:03

I don't like it either but I act grateful on Mother's Day.

Weebirdie · 15/03/2015 16:04

Clash, I go to the loo and freshen up before I have my breakfast.

MrsFlannel · 15/03/2015 16:08

Weebirdie well you somehow make it sound very civilized. Grin I like the idea of you with your tray and your window....

Not keen on it either.

Hulababy · 15/03/2015 16:11

I love tea and toast in bed. I couldn't have much more - cereals with milk would be a pain, and having anything piled up or liquidy/runny - hmm, not for me. But toast or muffins type of thing - definitely!

runlikeagirl · 15/03/2015 17:23

I like to eat as soon as I wake up. Cereal, always cereal. I got fancy pancakes in bed today, but I'd gave been happy with my granola and a cup of tea. The weird bit was the kids sitting and watching me eat.

DontOpenDeadInside · 15/03/2015 18:01

The dds made me breakfast in bed today. The little one (just 5) buttered the toast. I asked dd1 why there was only a tiny bit butter on the toast, she said cos dd3 kept licking it off! Yum! I eat toast for my brekkie and have the plate under my chin to catch any crumbs :)

Passmethecrisps · 15/03/2015 18:03

Fat chance of that in my house run! I had to share my bacon sarnie with 2yo who also wanted the plate for dipping into sauce purposes

Weebirdie · 15/03/2015 18:11

MrsFlannel, its my treat. I love it, it gives me time to gather my thoughts and once Ive had it I faff about and don't go downstairs for two hours. My son is with a carer by them, in fact they're the ones who do the breakfast for me. Its lovely, the come in and they care for both of us. Its heartwarming and not something I have ever asked to be done, they started it for me a few years ago and I very much appreciate it.

YANBU!! Crumbs are the herpes of breakfast in bed!

Nomama · 15/03/2015 19:28

Hardly herpes. One wash and they are all gone, permanently, without the need to contact the hundreds single other person you ever slept in that bed with.

Crumbs are more, erm, well, maybe, erm... pimple on the bottom of breakfast?

wearing · 15/03/2015 19:36

Oh a cup of tea in bed would be bliss! I can't remember the last time I had one! Smile

But breakfast? No. just no. My obsessive cleaning tendencies couldn't cope with that at all. In fact the thought of crumbs in bed is making me hyperventilate.

Which is just as well really, as a lone parent of a toddler I won't be getting breakfast in bed any time soon Smile

GreenPetal94 · 15/03/2015 19:38

breakfast in bed is not great especially when the fried eggs are cold. However when it is cooked unaided for mothers day for the first year ever, its delicious.

wearing · 15/03/2015 19:42

Rainbow I still remember the first time my brother and I cooked Mother's Day breakfast alone.

We microwaved the bread to make "toast" (cue very dry warm bread), and made the coffee first as that was easy, so it was stone cold.

My poor mum had to sit there and do her best to choke it down whilst we both watched her Smile.

Mousefinkle · 15/03/2015 19:53

I agree. I have eaten it in bed before, mainly in the student days and also with my first pregnancy when I basically couldn't even sit up in bed without eating something first otherwise I'd vomit... But other than that, no.

The thought did cross my mind to ask for the traditional breakfast in bed on a tray this morning but A) we don't own a tray and I wasn't about to spend £10+ on one when this day would be the only time it would ever be used. And B) I really like sitting as a family at the table to eat breakfast together, it's my favourite time of day. Plus I really don't want croissant crumbs in my bed or the danger of spilling my smoothie on the duvet cover Wink.

Hassled · 15/03/2015 19:57

I hate it too and have trained the DCs not to even think about trying it anymore. I need a wee and a coffee before I can talk to anyone, let alone force down whatever bizarre version of porridge DC4 has come up with.

FeijoaSundae · 15/03/2015 20:01

I rarely eat breakfast anyway, so on that basis, YANBU.

If I was, then at the table, with the kitchen to myself, and some music on would be far more appealing.

KiteKit · 15/03/2015 20:09

Dh gets up and goes downstairs.
I have a wee then get back into bed.
Dh brings me a mug of tea.
After an hour he brings me coffee and toast /crumpet.

It's all good.

Treeceratops · 15/03/2015 20:24

YABU. It's great. I have my breakfast in bed every Saturday (do it myself as it's my lie-in day and DH is busy with DS).

Bluebellina · 15/03/2015 20:41

No YANBU.breakfast in bed is vile...not at all enjoyable.Dont get the attraction of it myself Hmm

Lweji · 15/03/2015 21:11

I understand even less people getting up and then going to bed to have breakfast.
What's the point?

BlueBananas · 15/03/2015 21:26

Well I had tea & crumpets in bed this morning it was lovely - and crumpets don't make crumbs Grin
