Nooooo! The noise won't last long. Leave them alone.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 15/03/2015 09:12

You can't move it, you will destroy it as the birds won't come back to it, all birds and their nests are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act of 1981.

travailtotravel · 15/03/2015 09:15

You would be breaking the law. And cruel. Sorry but this is one you have to suck up and turn into a lesson about babies and the like for the kids ....

Pannacotta · 15/03/2015 09:16

NO they are protected, as hell says.
Cant you encourage the DCs so look at it in a positive way, so they learn about the birds' lifecycle? You can all watch the birds gather material for the nests, incubate the eggs, feed the babies, watch the fledgelings leave the nest etc....

LaLaLaaaa · 15/03/2015 09:18

There are a few months of the year when it's legal to clean out bird boxes and dispose of nests but you're too late now. It's breeding season and the nests are protected under Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. They are lovely birds, enjoy watching them raise their young with your DCs

SylviaPouncer · 15/03/2015 09:19

Nooooo, don't touch them. That would be really cruel. Bird song can be annoying but that's just what birds do.
I have house martins by my window and they are beautiful. I can watch them for ages.

SonnyJimBob · 15/03/2015 09:21

I would only move and destroy pigeons nests.

LaLaLaaaa · 15/03/2015 09:29

It is also illegal to destroy pigeon nests unless under conditions of general licences

kewtogetin · 15/03/2015 09:31

I feel your pain, we have a nest in the eaves of our house, right by our bedroom window. Every spring when the eggs hatch we are treated to a cacophony of birdsong from about 4am. But you get used to it and I quite like that they come back year after year. Let the eggs hatch and when they have flown the nest invest in a sonic bird scarer!

SycamoreMum · 15/03/2015 09:31

Understand your pain. Got a crows nest above my kitchen window. Its terrifying as mummy or daddy crow swoop down and when i've got the kitchen window wide open for a crafty fag. Not going to disturb them though.

LaLaLaaaa · 15/03/2015 09:54

Legally you can remove the nests when they are no longer in use - so watch out for the baby birds fledging then you can remove them: www.rspb.org.uk/makeahomeforwildlife/advice/helpingbirds/nestboxes/smallbirds/maintenance.aspx

swooneramamama · 16/03/2015 08:48

Thanks all. Guess I won't be moving any! Grin

It will be worth it when you get to see all the babies.

ARoomWithoutAView · 17/03/2015 05:29

There is another way of removing the nest, and you can share in the birdsong too;

Shockers · 17/03/2015 06:27

Earplugs. A full night's sleep and the joy of new birth!

lauralouise8 · 17/03/2015 22:13

Earplugs have already been mentioned above, but I'd recommend silicon ones from Boots. They cost three pounds and are brilliant. We are on the Heathrow flight path and they do the trick.

sosix · 17/03/2015 22:16

Just wait til they have baby birds, then you will know what noise is. Sorry. We had them in our loft.... Noisey little feckers. But dcs loved ot when they left the nest and made there way down our drive.

Oldraver · 17/03/2015 23:54

We have quite a few nesting but one lot are driving me mad...will definitely have to try and plug the gap when they have gone. Our bedrooms are in the roof so they are behind the wall of our bedroom. They woke at 5.30 this morning

We dont have any this year in one side of the garage....OH even left a gap in the guttering he repaired last year for them, the ungrateful beings...
