Boiler has broken again, 3rd time this year. I am on a nursing placement so unable to take any time off at all, dh has laready used a week of hols for sick kids and boiler repairs plus used all his favours for late starts and early finishs for sick kids, emergency dentist for kids etc. W e are only in March, I rang British Gas and they can come out on Monday but sh will end up feeling like he is taking the piss if he has anymore unplanned time off.

I have a week off in a week so would I be cruel to say we will have to manage for a week?

Could you not beg to your mentor and do a long day somewhere. If someone explained that to me I would be quite lenient. You could do a weekend or something or work a day in your week off to make time up.

No hit water is grim

it is a bit grim, I have also pushed my luck a bit though, I have worked today so I could have tuesday off for dd's birthday and I do have a day to make up in that week. Just seems to be one thing after another this last couple of months and I dont want to overdo favours. Mind you she would probably be lovely about it.

Could you beg British Gas to come out on Tuesday when you already have the day off? To be honest, I would say that the family having heating and hot water is a more important reason to have a day off than to celebrate a child's birthday, which could be celebrated in the evening. (Although I suppose it depends on how old the child is).

Would a neighbour let them in, watch TV at yours and lock up after them?

ditavonteesed · 14/03/2015 16:47

no was last tuesday, spoken to mentor and she said to sort it.

Yabu. Ask for family absence, don't put your degree above your family.
I'm also a nursing student with children, somethings can't be helped.
Can no one sit in and wait for you?
