What is a "sexual" nail polish colour?

thornrose · 13/03/2015 20:14

Great cross post there! Grin

ApocalypseThen · 13/03/2015 20:17

I would think the very strong reds would have quite string sexual connotations.

FuckItBucket · 13/03/2015 20:19

I want sexual nail varnish! I need it

SuperFlyHigh · 13/03/2015 20:25

Yep do her a colour she likes pref a sparkly pastel colour sod it there are lots of nice ones, yellow, scented (I think?), green etc let her have fun! I think you can even get stickers/blingy bits for them if you want to go even more girly.

fellowship33 · 13/03/2015 20:27

I never painted my 4-year-old' nails and felt quite strongly that it wasn't right. She's 10 now and I can't remember quite why it bothered me.
Would just make sure you have x remover that is acetone free.

PrincessGeorge · 13/03/2015 20:32

I absolutely have to find out about 'sexual' nail varnish colours .... What are these? How does it all work?

thornrose · 13/03/2015 20:37

Blimey, I can't see red being a sexual colour on a child's little nails. It's not as though they are wearing long false grown up nails.

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 13/03/2015 20:38

Go for it, my 2.5yr old neice always has painted toes. My sil does both hers and dn's on a sunday when they have the afternoon to themselves. She likes it, no harm done. Ive never got the fuss over it tbh, they just like having colours on their nails, its not bad for them or anything.

CaTsMaMmA · 13/03/2015 20:38

lol at sexual nail polish!

it's a BRILLIANT way to get peace and quiet for aaaaaaaaaaaaages, ...paint child's nails, let them sit still until nails are dry....you can spin this out all afternoon

no darling, they don't look dry yet, just sit still for a bit longer.....

HandMini · 13/03/2015 20:41

No, I wouldn't. I don't think it looks nice on little ones.

ClockwiseCat · 13/03/2015 20:46

I need sexual nail polish myself :o

ItchyOldBint · 13/03/2015 20:51

I let DD have clear varnish with glitter in it, Superdrug do little bottles in the Miss Sporty range for 99p, loads of glittery and subtle colours to chose from.

BastardGoDarkly · 13/03/2015 20:57

Grin Hmm at sexual colours on a 4 year olds nails!?

BathshebaDarkstone · 13/03/2015 20:59

I would if I could do it without my hand shaking. Smile

LittleRobots · 13/03/2015 21:03

Ha I must be strange I wouldnt (but wouldnt object to anyone else, similarly I wont allow pierced earings in small children but wouldnt object to anything else.)

I'm very much a let kids be kids and dont like it at all (I'm not keen that my 6 year old has to wear eyeliner for ballet...)

But I can see I'm the unusual one - I actually thought on mn (as opposed to nm) I'd be in teh majoritY!

DowntownFunk · 13/03/2015 21:04

Yes

Athyrium · 13/03/2015 21:05

Both DSs wanted their nails painted when they were young. It looked neither glamorous nor sexual. Just funny and sweet Smile

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 13/03/2015 21:06

I'm not keen on the toxic ones for kids, but there's loads of water-based ones with the really nasty stuff left out.

I was a bit reluctant to let DD1 wear nail varnish (she finally got it at 6) but I suspect that DD3 will be wearing it by 18 months Grin

LittleRobots · 13/03/2015 21:12

I just think it looks tacky (same category as fake tans, false eyelashes for me. The mums, not the kids...) I think I must be odd. Or old.

turquoiseamethyst · 13/03/2015 22:19

I wouldn't, I also think it looks a bit tacky, sorry. I don't paint my own nails, though.

PeppermintPasty · 13/03/2015 22:21

Of course! Why on earth not? Both mine (ds and dd) loved/love having their nails done at different times.

JustDerppingAround · 13/03/2015 22:21

I think it looks tacky but I'd do it anyway. Smile. I'd let the DDs choose the colours.

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 13/03/2015 22:34

Yes, I have done DD's any time she's asked, since she was 2 - but only because she asks when she sees me do mine (mainly just toes) – I wouldn't have unless she wanted me to.

Nothing wrong with teal. But re sexual colours, though I didn't start painting my nails until I was about 25, it's deeply ingrained in my head, despite my better judgement, since I was a child that bright red is a sexual colour for outrageous strumpets and I never wear it because it just doesn't feel right. I know why this is, it was ad!

MrsKCastle · 13/03/2015 22:43

I let my DDs have theirs painted, youngest is 3.

I don't usually like make up on children, but I see nail polish as more like face paint than actual make up- it's a fun thing to wear rather than something to make you look more beautiful IYSWIM.
