To think Flashdance is a disgrace to the oeuvre of trashy 1980's films?

I watched Flashdance for the first time last night. I thought it would be enjoyable in a guilty pleasures kind of way à la Pretty in Pink or Footloose or some such 80’s cinematic fluff. I was wrong.

Well what a load of old shit it is.

Moody little madam works as a welder by day (a rubbish one from what I could see) and dances in a very avant garde non tit displaying way by night. In a grotty bar. Who knew men in grotty bars in the 1980’s were such fans of avant garde dancing?

Falls in love with hot boss man, throws a rock through his window because she sees him with another woman. When he manages to get her an audition for dance school she thanks him by slapping him across the chops a few times and jumping out of the car in a tunnel. Oh she’s just so passionate!

And as for the dramatic climax audition scene, what the hell was that! The dancer might as well have been Hulk Hogan in a dodgy wig. Couldn’t they have even made an attempt to make it look like our permed and passionate heroine?

And worse then all this, it was deathly boring.

Verdict: Shit (This come from someone who likes Three Men and a Little Lady. My standards are low)

Watch

'Say anything' on Netflix and swoon

I love that film

slightlyeggstained · 21/06/2015 11:43

Actually prefer the Robert Webb Flashdance to the film.

Found the film super creepy.

Up there with Mr Darcy coming out the pond. Wink

Even in the 80s I thought Andie's dressmaking so-called transformation was shit.

and she should have gone with Duckie

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2015 11:50

Nooo Katie that's really creepy. Sad

KatieScarlettreregged · 21/06/2015 11:54

I actually did shag a member of the "entertainment staff" while on holiday with the folks age 19. 'Twas quite disappointing but at least I didn't get caught Blush

expatinscotland · 21/06/2015 11:58

I want one of those sweatshirts. Again.

flippinada · 21/06/2015 12:01

Talking of shit 1980s films, does anyone remember Ferris Buellers Day Off?

I think the premise was that we should all be rooting for Ferris as he was a free spirit sticking it to the man.

I hated him, and the film instantly. He's an obnoxious, overpriviliged little shit.

flippinada · 21/06/2015 12:03

BTW the theme tune to Flashdance was originally written about a serial killer and adapted for the film.

And it's definitely maniac on the floor Grin

KatieScarlettreregged · 21/06/2015 12:04

Yes, I thought Ferris was a knob too.

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2015 12:05

YY DH introduced the DSs to FBDO. They think it's the best film ever now.Hmm

flippinada · 21/06/2015 12:06

Hooray, I'm not the only one!

I spent the entire film grinding my teeth and hoping he would get his richly deserved comeuppance.

Theoldshmoo · 21/06/2015 12:08

Flashdance was and still is shit.

Its always been St Elmos Fire, About Last night and Youngblood in this house!

I didnt realise how pants Ferris Buellers day off was until me a Dh sat and watched it again last month.

expatinscotland · 21/06/2015 12:09

Ferris is a wanker.

Whiskwarrior · 21/06/2015 12:09

I love Baby-from-Dirty-Dancing in Ferris Butler. She's the one I root for, all the way through. Me and dsis call each other 'heartless wench' all the time Grin

Are we not going to mention the King of Brat Pack Movies (second to The Lost Boys)?

The Outsiders.

Over to you, Sparkling Grin

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2015 12:14

Grin Thing is Tom Cruise was in The Outsiders. I hate him especially in Top Gun which was crapola.

KatieScarlettreregged · 21/06/2015 12:20

Top Gun had a great soundtrack though, despite the sci fi totin in denial midget.

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2015 12:23

The scene where they sing You've Lost that Loving Feeling makes me feel so uncomfortable. And Show me Heaven a bit sick. Or was that out of Days of Thunder? Might be getting my crappy TC films muddled.

expatinscotland · 21/06/2015 12:25

No chemistry at all between Kelly and Tom. Kelly at least admits she is gay. Grin

JakeBallardswife · 21/06/2015 12:27

I adore Breakfast Club, St Elmo's fire ( Amazing soundtrack too) and Pretty in Pink. Mannequin I saw for the first time in a while it was a bit crap but I do get all nostalgic watching those films and remembering how I felt watching them, I felt so risqué and part of a scene my parent's just wouldn't understand! However, clearly they did as I was a goody two shoes teenager while my mother on her second husband was out enjoying every moment of her new life!

KatieScarlettreregged · 21/06/2015 12:28

Best 80s movie soundtracks were The Lost Boys and Pretty in Pink IMO.
Yes to that loving feeling scene. I wanted her to tell him she lost it - the minute you pulled that bollocks stunt, shortarse.

starsandunicorns · 21/06/2015 12:31

The lost boys
breakfast club
Gleaming the cube are my most fav 80's films
dh loves the goonies and porkies

raffle · 21/06/2015 12:41

Labyrinth was the best 80s film
For many reasons

Whiskwarrior · 21/06/2015 12:42

I love all three Porky films and can quote them endlessly.

I'm not even the tiniest bit ashamed of it.

Them, Grease 2 and Earth Girls Are Easy.

Love them.

Whiskwarrior · 21/06/2015 12:44

I'm not clicking on that photo.

I adore Labyrinth but my Christ, those trousers!

Did Bowie pioneer jeggings?
