I have just been bollocked for NOT using a blue badge space even though there's one in my vehicle!! I explained as my daughter wasn't with me just my toddler I didn't use it and so parked in toddler parking.
I was called a selfish bitch by woman who was waiting for a parent space"...." AIBU to take an age to unpack and spend 5 minutes writing this in the car while she fumes and waits? (no child in her car but has a kids seat)

Are you sure you haven't forgotten something and need to pop back to the shop? Grin

Nolim · 12/03/2015 10:28

Err whaaaaat?
Yanbu. In fact you abvr for using only what you need.

FarFromAnyRoad · 12/03/2015 10:29

Your first mistake was to explain anything to such a vile person! She would have been offensive to you whatever the circumstances. Horrid way to start the day though so I'll join you in praying for a large incontinent seagull to fly over her very soon. Grin

BubblesInMyBath · 12/03/2015 10:29

Sorry? You have a toddler and are selfish for using the child space??Shock

Take your time, long enough that she HAS to park in another spot

WyldChyld · 12/03/2015 10:29

YANBU. You meet the criteria for parent and child so parked there. You technically didn't meet the blue badge requirements at the time as you didn't have the possessor of the blue badge (your other DD) in the car with you at the time to benefit from it. She was exceptionally rude and abusive. What I would say is don't lower yourself to her horrid level. If she was in such a hurry, she could have parked elsewhere (although it's not as convenient / easy) - the parent and child spaces are there for convenience and ease of use.

Groovee · 12/03/2015 10:30

Cripes, it's a sad day when a parent abuses a fellow parent for using something which they both can use if available.

You did the right thing, she sounds an entitled arse.

EponasWildDaughter · 12/03/2015 10:32

You've got your toddler with you and are parking in a parent/child space.

YANBU.

Perhaps the confusion arose because you were displaying the badge but not parking in the blue badge spaces.

There are some very thick people about.

Ilovenannyplum · 12/03/2015 10:33

YANBU
I would definitely be popping back in for something I had 'forgotten' Wink

MythicalKings · 12/03/2015 10:36

A picnic?

Yokohamajojo · 12/03/2015 10:39

Really pissing me off when parents think they are entitled to use the parent spaces just because they have an EMPTY kids seat in the car! You were totally correct and she should piss off!!

sparklepopsicles · 12/03/2015 10:40

So she has no kids with her but wants a parent / child space????

ghostyslovesheep · 12/03/2015 10:40

Maybe change a nappy, read a book, go back and buy some sweets, do your make up ...

YANBU - she is being a twat

proceeding · 12/03/2015 10:44

I think you need to make a number of very important phone calls urgently and ooh, shoot, you're hands free isn't working, is it!

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 12/03/2015 11:04

I'm home now, and I'm embarrassed to say I did do a nappy change and a slow walk to return my trolley, I'm cross with myself for lowering myself but I was soooo gobsmacked! She parked across the road bit a whole 15 ft away and gave me serious evils as I pulled out, I blew a kiss *hangs head in shame.

PaulaJane37 · 12/03/2015 11:10

I'd still be sitting there!! Very restrained OP and I like the kiss!! I bet the silly moo is still raging!!

TwartFaceBeetj · 12/03/2015 11:19

I blew a kiss GrinGrinGrin

SquinkiesRule · 12/03/2015 11:30

Grin you blew a kiss, well done.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 12/03/2015 11:42

YADNBU Grin at blowing a kiss

WyldChyld · 12/03/2015 13:09

GOOD! I'd have been blowing kisses all the way down the street!

Fmarf · 12/03/2015 13:15

Lol! Drove off in style lady! She was being unreasonable. Anyhoo, I thought that blue badge holders were entitled to use parent child spaces should the need arise? Blue badge spaces are 'protected' and you can be fined for misusing them by parent child spaces are purely a courtesy provision thing. That's what I thought anyway. So she was a double eejit!

Felyne · 12/03/2015 14:14

She didn't even have a child in her car? What the hell did she need a P&C space for then?

Behindthepaintedgarden · 12/03/2015 14:15

To be honest, stories like this just make me long even more to see P&C spaces abolished. They generate a level of rude, self entitled behaviour that goes beyond any convenience they offer to a small group of shoppers.

Icimoi · 12/03/2015 14:41

I can't understand why the stupid woman felt she had to wait for a parent space rather than parking in an ordinary space. Even if she had had a child with her, it is still usually easy enough to find a space with enough room to take the child out of the car. The fact that she would rather wait in her car for ages than find an alternative space is extraordinary.

ineedabodytransplant · 12/03/2015 15:00

Fmarf,

Unfortunately, Blue badge spaces aren't 'protected' in private car parks like Tesco/Asda etc. It's left to decency and morals. Which are in very short supply at times.
