Playground rage

AIBU to irrationally get the rage about this? My office window looks over a newly refurbished playground, which the primary school next door have permission to use during their lunch break. All above board, it’s a city centre school so they have no outdoor space of their own. Part of the refurbishment was the installation of a really cool swing that can fit about 5-6 kids at a time.

There is a Senior College about a 5-10 minute walk away, and every day all this week three students from this college (around 17-18 yrs old) have totally taken over this swing, and have not let the young kids anywhere near it during their lunch break. I get that it’s probably the college kids lunch break too, but they are nearly adults, and they are blocking a bunch of 7-8 year olds from using the playground equipment! The primary school have teachers and security people there supervising it all, but they’d have no jurisdiction in asking the big kids to get off and let the little kids play.

Anyway, nothing I can do about it of course, but it is really bugging me.

It might be worth contacting, or suggesting to the school they contact the, council who can put up signs saying it's for under 12's only. They had them where I used to live; local community police officer was good for moving annoying teenagers along.

The swing is massive though, and is totally big enough for adults to use so restricting it to under 12s only would be pointless. I've found a picture of one that looks exactly the same here - hopefully this works.

Do the younger kids ask for a go or do they just steer clear? TBH, I don't see why younger kids should automatically get precedence over older ones, but everyone should share in the playground!

The little kids are really cute - they just all line up patiently to wait their turn.

The other day one of the teenagers finally jumped off, and the little kids swarmed forwards, only for another of the teenagers jump in front of them onto the swing!

I think if the school have permission to use it during break hours, then they should have precedence and they should be able to ask the college kids not to use it.
