Hi since my son has started secondry hes had sick bug about 5 times meaning hes had to stay of school about 3-4 days each time. when i say sick i mean sick as in head down toilet vomiting not just feeling sick. because hes had so much time of i end up with school attendence on my back. warnings of meetings and things like that. They have also asked me to get medical proof if i dont it will go down as unothrised absence. but also i have been told by gp that they dont like to get involved with school with that sort of thing. also i dont take my son to the gp because he has a sick bug. as theres no point.

are there any suggestions?

oh also what i dont get is at primary my son was rearly ill or of school now hes often ill with the sick bug and i dont understand why this has sunddenly happened since he started the school. he seems happy there. no bullying or anything like that. he complains about the odd teacher. but thats about it just normal stuff. so i dont think its a stress/worry thing. just seems very odd that hes often ill since starting the school

Something doesn't seem right here and yes he needs to see GP. 5 sickness bugs in what, 5-6 months, during school time and requiring time off does not sound normal.
I also think it is pretty unusual to be vomiting then eating plenty then vomiting again and then eating again. That does not sound like a sickness bug.

I've had about that many stomach bugs since September tbh. But I do have 3 kids at primary school / nursery at home who like to bring all their lovely bugs home...

If he's still happily eating, I'd be less inclined to think it's a bug and more inclined to think it was something else, like anxiety, migraines or indigestion / reflux.

Storm15 · 11/03/2015 09:49

I should probably add I was bulimic as a teen. If he's throwing up at night, could he have been up eating / bingeing beforehand? That's what I used to do...binge at night when everyone was asleep!

If he's overweight then this could make him a target for low level bullying. This many episodes suggests to me that there could be something he is not telling you.

If your son has been off school for 3-4 days on 5 separate occasions since last September, that is a minimum of 15 days absence. I'm not surprised school are on your back. It's also not normal for someone to be ill that often without some underlying cause. Either there is a physical reason like migraines or there is some psychological condition relating to food and eating or something is happening at school, like bullying. You need to take him to the doctor and try to get to the bottom of it.

cestlavielife · 11/03/2015 09:51

There are anti migraine meds like pizitofen or propanolol. You need to get him checked and maybe put on med.

he does not have a food issue as such. he does not binge and then chuck up. its just when theses bugs are going on. if he had say bulimia i would have thought he would be ill after most meals. but hes not.

storm im wondering weather its simlar for my son. maybe he is picking the bugs up from school. the school is massive 1500 students. thats alot of people. but then again saying that it would be the same for other kids to. :/

i spoke to school today and they just said to get him an appointment for the gp so that i have medical evidence even if its just an appointment card
