to be annoyed that I have been labelled a 'chicken'

Last night DP and I popped into his parents house for a cup of tea and to show his dad our new car.

His dad came out and I went inside to see his family. His mum came downstairs in mis-matched pjs and his sister told me his mum has had the sh!ts and soiled her trousers three times that evening.
With that she sat forward, said 'here it goes again' and then didn't move until DPs sister told her to go upstairs. When she got there she shouted down that she didn't make it in time, would have to put a nightie on and would wash these trousers out in the sink first with the others!

I am 22w pregnant and at that point got up and said I was going, if she had any bugs I didn't want to catch them and I would see them another day. Then I went to the car and told DP we were leaving and the reasons why.

DP went back in to get his keys and a family friend that was there was laughing that I had left and said I was a chicken.
I am annoyed that they knew I was going round and his mum was ill and noone bothered to say and that they made a comment because I had left.

Now I have written it it sounds petty...

I legged it out of a doctor's waiting room yesterday because a mum turned up with a vomiting ten year old. She asked to wait somewhere else to avoid infecting the entire waiting room but the receptionist just shrugged. I'm 30 weeks pregnant but would have walked out even if I wasn't (I was only waiting for a prescription to be signed).

YANBU. I hate the way some people are so inconsiderate about sharing their illnesses.

WorraLiberty · 10/03/2015 13:30

I feel sick

I agree with DoJo. Being called a chicken is so far down the list, it doesn't even enter it for me.

Both her and her DD sound utterly crass.

poldarkeranddarker · 10/03/2015 13:32

A grown woman who had a stomach bug sat on the sofa and just shat herself rather than go and sit on the bog for a while? Shock

You being pregnant is, I think, largely irrelevant in the broader context that these people are uncivilised fucking animals.

pinkie1982 · 10/03/2015 13:33

Yes it was real.
No she doesn't have dementia.
The other two people there thought it was hysterical.
I felt sick and sat there for a few mins in stunned silence that people actually do that! I certainly have never known it.

I couldn't quite figure out why she was thinking about going upstairs rather than just going?!

Shock Confused Shock

This is one of those posts that make me think I must have slipped through a rent in the fabric of reality and landed in a surrealist nightmare where all the rules of everything have been turned on their head and all the postmen are, in fact, squirrels.

I don't even know where to begin with it ... apart from to say that diarrhoea that is so uncontrollable suggests a very nasty stomach bug indeed or some hellish food poisoning.

WorraLiberty · 10/03/2015 13:39

If she thinks nothing of shitting herself on her couch, I'd be bloody concerned about taking the baby there when it's born.

And I couldn't be further from a germ freak type of person.

salthill · 10/03/2015 13:39

I hope those pyjamas go in the washing machine on a hot wash after she washed them in the sink, a hand wash wouldn't kill the germs or get rid of the stink. What an awful course woman, does she have form for doing gross things?

Jackie0 · 10/03/2015 13:40

So this is the first indication you had that your in-laws have no standards whatsoever?
I have never in my life encountered a situation or a family like that.
I take it your dh is quite different to his parents and siblings?

Shesparkles · 10/03/2015 13:40

I can confirm that some people really are this disgusting, my late MIL did this, and sat in her own filth till DH went to see her. He's an only child and had to do things for that woman that no one should have to do. She didn't have dementia or mental health problems, she was just a manipulative cow.
My own mum had early onset dementia, resulting in her becoming doubly incontinent, and she was never in that state

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 10/03/2015 13:42

Are you the poo troll v2.0?! Shock Grin

pinkie1982 · 10/03/2015 13:42

Don't worry DP is not like that in the slightest, nor are my own family.
I don't go there often ...

OP posts:
LampingPolars · 10/03/2015 13:43

I don't think you were unreasonable to leave because what happened was disgusting, you don't just sit and shit yourself and then tell everyone.

if you left only because you thought you might catch something I think YABU.

This!

BuzzardBird · 10/03/2015 13:45

I hope you washed your hands thoroughly when you left?

I am sorry, but his family are rank!

Jackie0 · 10/03/2015 13:45

Years ago I had a friend that visited peoples homes as part of her nursing training.
She saw some horrid things , things that weren't a result of individuals being unable to care for themselves and their families, they were just dirty rotten people.

Momagain1 · 10/03/2015 13:50

Your MIL is so bizarre I want to leave my own house!

SoonToBeMrsB · 10/03/2015 13:51

Regardless of the fact that you are pregnant, that's just fucking disgusting. I would have left immediately on the grounds that your DP's mother is a dirty cow, never mind the chance of catching a bug!

I'm aghast that someone would sit and shit their pants - and in front of guests! Vile.

ouryve · 10/03/2015 13:52

Urgh.

No chicken. They should have told you so you could choose not to visit. That's without even thinking about how it all panned out. I agree with the PP who said they wouldn't be taking their baby there.

geekymommy · 10/03/2015 14:04

You're definitely not a chicken to think that's not acceptable behaviour and not want to be around it. Unless "chicken" now means "reasonable human being who was not raised in a barn".

squoosh · 10/03/2015 14:05

Chickens would have the good sense to escape that tsunami of shit.

pand0raslunchb0x · 10/03/2015 14:58

Maybe she didn't read the label of the chicken correcly and got food poisoning? haha seriously though anyone with an ounce of sense would tell you before hand if they are ill and give you the choice of going to visit or not.

Allstoppedup · 10/03/2015 15:08

This sounds like a scene from The Royale family or something!

Urrrgg!

Debinaround · 10/03/2015 15:11

Oh my god that is rotten and UANBU but this thread is making me laugh!

Which sink is she washing her shit catching PJs?
Really hope it isnt the one in the kitchen!!!

Koalafications · 10/03/2015 15:13

I'm sorry, OP but that is hilarious.

Grin Grin Grin

I can't believe she nearly shit herself in front of you.

Koalafications · 10/03/2015 15:14

I hope you didn't wash your hands in the sink full of shitty PJ's...
