to turn up at Bobbi Brown counter, on the morning of wedding, in my wedding dress?

Its just that I won't have time to change and its a lot better value than getting mua, all of whom have been booked up.

Is this a crazy idea? Will wear a hairdresser cloak to stop spills.

I had my make up done at a Bobbi Brown counter on the Dh of my wedding, then my nails done at an opi counter in the same department store. I bought beauty products to take on honeymoon. I went in casual clothes and got changed at home after the appointment. Worked perfectly. Don't consider myself cheap or tacky, just really liked the way she'd done my make up before!

TSSDNCOP · 09/03/2015 19:55

Well, we established within 10 posts OP had booked the appt and intended to buy products. Practically perhaps not the best idea, but if I worked on Bobbi I'd be thrilled at the fact people could see a bride trusted the product that much she was happy to call in on the way to the wedding.

Congratulation OP. When is your big day?

erinscupcake · 09/03/2015 20:02

Its in June! High season for weddings apparently. Mac also do this too. Its thirty quid, redeemable in products. They all said this happens a lot. Not the wedding dress bit though!

Yes having your makeup done and redeeming it against products is fairly standard. Not sure what your point would be then?
Your post was about pitching up in your dress, which was the UR part.

erinscupcake · 09/03/2015 20:07

I think another poster said it best, I'd look like an exhibitionist, that was ur part I guess.

I mean, this was what I was worried about.

Go for it, I was a make up artist in a London dept store, did this a few times, loved it!!! It's such a boring job a bit of excitement was lovely, one girl was a hopeless case and we ended up getting a hairdresser from upstairs to come and do her hair whilst someone else did her nails, it was fun DO IT

waithorse · 09/03/2015 20:18

Amazing idea. Smile

misssmilla1 · 09/03/2015 20:22

Have you talked to them about what you do and don't want so you don't end up on the day wasting time if you don't like the eyes they do, lip colour etc and they have to redo? My first wedding makeup trial was a nightmare and I ended up looking like an oompaloompa as for some reason she asked me what colour face I wanted instead of trying to match to my actual skin tone Confused

Giving them an outline will also cut down their time in trying to find the right colours / eyelashes /whatever you're having done

I wouldn't wear the dress; as pp have said just getting to the counter in it in one piece might be fraught with issues!

Barbadosgirl · 09/03/2015 20:29

I would have a trial and not wear the dress but otherwise YANBU. My wedding was overseas and Bobbi Brown did my make up for free twice before the wedding, the second time they painstakingly showed my bridesmaid how to do it as she did it on the day. In return I bought all the makeup so they made a killing on commission. Plus I have used nothing else but that brand since. Nothing cheap about it, but your dress will get filthy so think around that. Congrats! Oh and they did an amazing job, much better than some of the hopeless "professionals" I have seen butcher some brides!

RC1234 · 09/03/2015 20:31

If you have a big white dress this sounds like a bad idea. Wedding dresses can be very heavy and getting onto the tall bar stools will be interesting. Definitely need to avoid escalators. No if you must go along in jeans and change latter. I say this as someone who did a last minute dash to Boots-Estee Lauder lady was lovely about it and sold a load of stuff but I was the first time she had ever had someone come in on their wedding day.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 09/03/2015 20:33

The lady who works on the counter of Estée Lauder at our local department store came to me on the morning of our wedding. It worked much better than me going to the store. She also did my mum and MIL. I paid her a fee that was previously agreed. About £200 if I recall. Maybe a bit more. I didn't need to buy any products. She used her own Estée Lauder supplies (they were extensive) and used my Estée Lauder foundation to be sure of the colour match as they day went on.

RC1234 · 09/03/2015 20:34

By the way the emergency dash was not planned - I opened my old faithful foundation on the day and it stank.

mewkins · 09/03/2015 20:35

I would feel a bit weird having to walk through John Lewis in a wedding dress! When i had my hair done for my wedding I had to walk back to te multistorey with my veil attached. I felt like a fool!

momb · 09/03/2015 20:42

The Elizabeth Arden lady offered this to me when I bowled up for a trial as I hadn't worn makeup for 20 years. If I'd been able to make the timings work I'd have taken her up on it too.

YANBU to go and have your make up done as it's common practice and the counters make loads of money doing this, but do not go in your wedding dress: have hair and undies done but pop a button up top and a baggy skirt over the top and put your dress on afterwards. It will only take 10 mins and you will save yourself a world of embarrassment! What if she flicks makeup on your dress: honestly, put the dress on later.

LizziW · 09/03/2015 20:44

Hi congratulations on your wedding! I bet if you had a word with the store they would be happy for you to take the dress and keep it in a back room/changing room whilst you had make up done ( I worked for many years in a huge department store)Then you could change afterwards. Good luck!

nobutreally · 09/03/2015 20:50

I did this - but in my normal clothes not the dress. Had hair done at hairdresser in town and makeup at Clinique makeup counter, then went home to get changed. I had a prebooked session at the counter, and went a week early to talk colours/have a practice so I was confident. It was fun - only bit that felt exhibitionist was once the hairdresser put the veil in - and then it was just walking up the high street with my sister, both of us giggling ten to the dozen. Like others, I'd have worried too much about the dress to wear it. I'm amazed ppl think this is cheapskate - normally mn is a big fan of cheap weddings...

stayathomegardener · 09/03/2015 20:50

Can't believe anyone would consider this odd ( apart from turning up in the dress)
DD 16 had a prom make up practice at Bobbi Brown on Saturday, pre booked 40 minutes £30.00 which you then spend on products- eyebrow brush and eye shadow. I imagine she will have a couple more and by the time of her prom will have the full kit and the skills to do her own make up.

Panzee · 09/03/2015 20:54

I'm quite disappointed that it's planned. I had a vision of someone legging it down the escalator from the bridal department in a white meringue. Next stop, nail counter, then hair... :o

nobutreally · 09/03/2015 20:58

I've just spotted your comment about not having time to change - I'd find a way - even if it meant a loo somewhere.

Rollonpayday · 09/03/2015 21:02

Why not? Sounds like a hoot! I went for pints in my wedding dress en route from register office to hotel. Walked from A to B right through Cardiff City Centre! Bloody fab!

DandyHighwayman · 09/03/2015 22:10

Imagine the escalator trying to eat the hem, eeeeeeek!

Like that terrible public service film with the wee rag doll being chomped by the escalator, the teeth going ang ang ang

Panzee · 09/03/2015 22:13

Wtf? I googled wedding dress escalator and got this!

to turn up at Bobbi Brown counter, on the morning of wedding, in my wedding dress?
ClumsyNinja · 10/03/2015 09:47

That pic is obviously before they got their make up done. Grin

miniavenger · 10/03/2015 11:05

Fine to do if buying product, can work out great or be a bit risky without a trial and knowing what the makeup artist is like. Definitely no to wedding dress- the makeup person will be uncomfortable in case of powder spillages and manoeuvring around, you will get self concious with people staring and it could get walked on/caught/damaged or dirtied. Just wear a tunic top of tracksuit and have plenty of images from pintrest and the like so the person knows what you want.

Will you be getting your hair done too? First?
