I'm not sure wether I'm over reacting or not hence the post on aibu, but pictures of my ds with flash on make his eyes shine with a white tint, have attatched picture so you can see for yourself and have put my eye in view for comparison.

Is this normal or should I be scheduling a doctors appointment.

If you are worried about something like this, please go to your GP, don't ask strangers on the Internet or Google it.

Hi ampersandand, your Ds is very cute!
With DS3 DH told me that when they were reading books at bedtime he had started to notice this white spot in one eye.
We organised an appointment with our GP who had a look, said he didnt feel it was sinister but to get seen at clinic just to be 100% sure.
This app. was quick to come through. It involved putting some drops in DSs eyes and then we went for a walk, came back and the Doc had one of those head lamps on to look in his eyes. Unfortunately Ds is super shy and wouldn't really comply, but he managed enough of a look to be able to say it was clear.
Such a relief. My advice is to ring your GP surgery tomorrow to get things checked. Try not to worry.
AND DONT GOOGLE!!

Do you have a family history of rb (it is pretty rare)? If you are worried, do speak to your GP, I think that retinas with rb usually reflect white vs. red/white. Are you feeling particularly anxious?

Kundry · 08/03/2015 08:40

White tint is very common with digital photography and retinoblastoma is rare. You get checked for peace of mind but it's incredibly unlikely to turn out to be retinoblastoma.

yellowdinosauragain · 08/03/2015 08:41

I went to our local eye casualty for this with my ds. It was nothing. The doc said it's pretty common and rarely retinoblastoma but was more than happy to see us to make sure. Do it

Thank you, I will book in for gp visit tomorrow. I'm really hoping it's nothing to worry about, I keep looking through pictures of him and working myself up.

There are lots of threads on MN with people worrying about retinoblastoma, but I've never seen an update saying that it was Smile

Of course you should get your baby checked for peace of mind, but the chances of retinoblastoma are SO slim. It's true that camera phones are more likely to get an eye to reflect white instead of red, but looking at your photo, both eyes are red; one just has a slightly red tint.

Please don't panic.

seaoflove · 08/03/2015 08:48

*slightly white tint

ampersandand · 08/03/2015 08:53

seaoflove Thank you, I'm feeling a lot better now hearing that.

Doesn't look like RB

My DD had a very white eye in a photo once so I went and immediately got it checked out at the opticians. Despite it being a classic retinoblastoma photo everything was absolutely fine, so try not to worry.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/03/2015 20:28

Somebody else has asked this tonight. I said that I had literally dozens of photos of dd2 with the same white pupil. When I found out it could mean something I took her straight to the optician. He gave her a thorough eye examination and declared her fit and healthy. Apparently the white eye can mean a growth in the eye but it's very rare.

BifsWif · 08/03/2015 21:03

I had to get my son checked too! Apparently iPhone cameras are terrible for giving white eye. Get him checked like you say, but I'm willing to be he's just fine Smile
