My work laptop died suddenly in the middle of a project (self employed), so I had to replace it. Within a few days it became apparent the new one was fatally faulty. Took it back, they exchanged it for another of the same brand. It was supposed to take a maximum of 24 hours for them to set it up, but at about the 30 hour point when the staff were shrugging and saying they had no clue when it might get finished and it was late afternoon on my second lost working day, I took it home and set it up myself. (Did not get refund for set up fee incidentally.) Within 48 hours, this computer was showing the identical fault. The store replaced it with a third laptop, different make and model. This one also took over 30 hours to set up and that was after I went to the store and asked. If I'd have waited at home for the phone call as told I'm confident it would have been several days. Staff were all lovely and charming but no messages were being left or passed between them during shifts, so not much was getting done.
I have had to do some reinstalling on this third laptop too as while it's functional without the hardware damage the other two had there are still issues with the windows installation and I've had one major crash, but I can't face taking a third one back. Now my mother has let me know that the tv I bought from this same store for her for a Christmas present less than 12 weeks ago has developed several major faults. We're at four for four major purchases being faulty within three months!
The store/Customer Service telephone line seem to feel this is all part of the rich Currys Purchase Experience and are fine with this rate of faulty goods, and want her to hand the tv over for repair for up to 14 days. My experience of their deadlines suggests this is likely to be a very optomistic estimate and will probably turn out to be a lot longer, and a tv that is faulty inside 3 months isn't fit for purpose and isn't likely to live long anyway. They absolutely won't lend or let me hire one for her within this time frame either, which I was hoping was possible as she's in her 70s and lives alone and the tv, the only one in the house, is an important source of company for her.
AIBU to think four out of four pieces of separate equipment being faulty is a bit more than just bad luck?
