To want to kill DH right now (lighthearted)

Just went to the petrol station to fill up the car and he only went and put diesel in our petrol tank. Luckily, it was only a fivers worth and I realised before we started it up. Unluckily, it going to cost £150 to drain and flush the tank. Fortunately I'm a easy going type of wife and am laughing through gritted teeth and can almost see the funny side.

If it was only a fivers worth & there wasn't much petrol in it to start with u can just fill it to max with petrol & that will dilute the diesel enough for it to run without damaging the engine. i think!!!

RhiannonElward · 06/03/2015 18:56

We've done the opposite, dp put a small amount of unleaded in our diesel. I don't know if that makes a difference, but we were advised to fill the tank with diesel and that we shouldn't have any problems with such a small amount. We didn't have any problems after we did that.

glenthebattleostrich · 06/03/2015 18:58

My old boss did this twice. He was the head of the transport department running a fleet of 2000 vehicles.

busywifey · 06/03/2015 19:02

Just fill to brim with petrol and give it a good run. Save yourself £150!

NapoleonsNose · 06/03/2015 19:06

It was just before 5.30 - its a main dealer garage - and they were just about to close, so he went in to ask them and they said NOT to start it. I asked the forecourt people and they said it would be fine just to fill it right up. Its a new car, to us anyway, that the PIL gave us the money to buy, so really don't want to bugger it up. We've only had it a month so I decided to wear the 150 quid as we really can't afford to mess up the engine. Typically, its my turn to work tomorrow so they've given us a courtesy car so I can get there. Bloody idiot - even after two glasses of wine, I still want to kill him! If it had been me, there would have been hell to pay!

If only a fiver flood the tank of disease and you should get away with it (no liability held if you dont just want pil in told)

londonrach · 06/03/2015 19:11

Diesel not disease but you knew that..( thrown ipad out of window)

CallMeExhausted · 06/03/2015 19:16

For what it is worth, you can hold this over his head for ETERNITY!!!!

NapoleonsNose · 06/03/2015 19:18

Don't worry callme, I'm going to!

Killing him would be every so slightly extreme, wouldn't it? Are you sure you've never made a stupid mistake?

bumpiesonamission · 06/03/2015 20:28

LTB Grin Grin Grin Wink

Charitybelle · 06/03/2015 20:38

My dh did this recently. Cost £160!
But I was secretly pleased as ever since we got our new car (diesel) he'd been helpfully reminding me not to accidentally fill it with unleaded!

I felt a wee bit smug, and grateful that I have this ammunition next time he tries to talk down to me about cars Grin

Fluffyears · 06/03/2015 20:52

My dad did the same and garage told him just to fill up with correct fuel and there was no problem.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 06/03/2015 21:17

I would mock him for life.

bimandbam · 06/03/2015 21:22

My dp did petrol in a diesel yesterday too.

The great numpty. Only cost us £80 though which was a relief.

I definitely haven't taken the piss all day. Definitely not. Especially not after him laughing at my reverse parking attempt failed the other day. Grin

mummyof2munchkins · 06/03/2015 22:45

I did this, few months ago. My car, had it for years, £58 of unleaded into my diesel car.

Drove in with 1/4 tank, put £58 unleaded in, called AA, £220 to empty tank. £278 and i had empty tank.

If DH had made a single comment i'd have hit him with something very heavy been very annoyed.

Shit happens, laugh and buy wine.

CunningCat · 07/03/2015 00:09

I know someone who done this to their ex p new BMW Grin

SquareStarfish · 07/03/2015 02:59

On a side note- I have always been under the impression you couldn't put diesel in a petrol, only the other way round, because the diesel nozzle is bigger??

Have I been living with a false safety net all this time?!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 07/03/2015 07:34

Putting diesel in a petrol engibe is much more serious than the other way round.

Dgbgas a diesel car, I have petrol. I once went to fill up my car and couldn't get the nozzle in at all - then realised I was trying to fill it with diesel. The diesel nozzle was too big for the petrol tank. I thought all garages had that arrangement, in order to prevent diesel going into petrol tanks?

NapoleonsNose · 07/03/2015 07:39

Starfish and Paxman - they do! But somehow he still managed to force five quids worth of fuel in. I'm feeling a bit more mellow about it now. It was an accident and he feels a right tit. Next time he gets the huff with me for something though, I'm certainly going to point out how reasonable I was when he made a very expensive mistake. I defo have the upper hand now. Evil Grin

Like your style. Don't give away the upper hand too easily though, sit on it for a while so he thinks you'll not mention it again. Then when he thinks you've forgotten about it and he gets the huff over something - BAM. Throw it back at him then. Grin

WottaMess · 07/03/2015 09:02

My dh has done this 3 times. That gives me the upper hand forever!!!

comedancing · 07/03/2015 09:04

Putting petrol in a diesel is not as serious as petrol more refined. But putting diesel in a petrol could wreck it. I wouldn't give out too much as like me you might do it yourself some day and be really hoping for mercy as you will feel such a fool so go easy on him!
