Ok, I don't think IABU, but posting here for advice because AIBU is the spiritual home of parking threads.

I live on an old victorian street with v little parking, so narrow road with parked cars on both sides the whole length. There is a preschool on this street and parents regularly pull up and park in the middle of the road outside it, for a few mins while they drop their kids off. There's also a fair bit of parking across driveways etc, but I don't have a driveway. This morning I was late for the doctors with DD because of the obstruction and they almost refused to see us Angry

I have complained to the school before but got a very wishy washy response, basically taking no responsibility. I want to complain about this to the council (or whoever) but I've looked on my local council's website and can't work out the relevant department. Any ideas?

Suggest that your local fire station needs a training run down your road at an appropriate time!

I live on a school street and parents regularly block my drive way. One arrogant cow woman saw me & said that it was important for her to drop off her son at school so could I wait until she got back to drive out of my own drive. I was too speechless to say anything.

I got my own back when I spotted a local PCO & gave the car reg, make & model.Smile I also made a complaint to the school & they put a notice on the school website.

Good luck

I'm sorry to say that in my experience nothing you do will make a difference

Our work car park and car park entrance unfortunately shares a private drive way with the STAFF entrance of a school - consequently - despite signs, cones and double yellow lines they block to drive way, block the entrance to our car park, move the cones and block our cars in

we have blocked people in before now and they just buzz our door repeatedly and demand we move - they refuse to see they do anything wrong - I have been threatened, other staff have been verbally and racially abused

the school doesn't care

The PCSO's and wardens turn up now and then - when they go it returns to 'normal'

Some people are just entitled gits - we have a major supper market car park 2 mins walk away - free parking for 400 cars for 3 hours ...they refuse to walk - it's crazy :(

Id complain to the school again and I would speak to the local council.

Our local PCSOs are very helpful.

SnottyCowbag · 06/03/2015 18:32

You should take photos of any badly parked cars too.

This happens outside DS's school.

We are constantly being asked not to do it, but it still happens.

It's the arrogant, thoughtless few, and I don't think anything will stop them.

I was in my dcs school office the other day when a call came in from a resident of the street outside school. Her car was blocked in by a parent and she was late for work. The receptionist was lovely aboutit, but ultimately, it is not in the schools durastriction (sp) Apart from put messages in the school newsletter, what else can be done? Parents were not meant to drive into the school grounds, but they were so the caretaker started keeping the gates shut, only letting staff in, but was threatened to be punched by a parent .so they had to stop closing the gate. Its rediculous. I drive to school but park away so we have a few mins walk in. In any weather!

gallicgirl · 06/03/2015 21:18

If a parent threatens to punch a member of staff, then they should continue to lock the gates and reiterate to parents that they need to find somewhere safe to park!

Do they give in so easily to children who bully?!!

cartoonsaveme · 06/03/2015 22:41

I was a bit shocked by that too. The school need to take a hard line

Fizrim · 06/03/2015 23:18

It is the minority making it hard work for the residents near schools. I used to live near a large school myself - never again!

I'd pitch it as a safety issue. My DD's school has recently had a bit of a push against poor parking. They had the Police come in and speak to the children about what was poor parking (I think this was the most effective bit, tbh) and some of the children joined the Police and school staff/governors each morning outside the school for a week.

Some parents are awful - during the parking week, I heard one parent (still sitting in their car after parking across someone's drive) arguing with both a resident and a police that there was nowhere to park. The constable pointed out that it was a very long road. Or in other words, just park a bit further away as there is plenty of space within just a few minutes walk!
