according to DP my taste when it comes to house warming presents are awful.

I've suggested

cook books - he says they don't cook
picture frames - which I've been told is clutter
nice clock - again wall clutter
nice vase - you've guessed it he says it's clutter

any other ideas ladies ???

A plant in a plain pot. Can't go wrong.

ZebraLovesKnitting · 05/03/2015 15:01

I got a friend of mine a rose whose name is the same as hers, she seemed to like it.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 05/03/2015 15:01

A nice plant it a pot. Or get what you want and ignore your DP.

I discovered a film called 'Clutter' last night. Is about a family who have to declutter or lose their home. Going to watch it later.

Your DP could watch it with me if he likes...

wowfudge · 05/03/2015 15:01

A plant would be my suggestion too. Something easy to care for.

tobytomcat88 · 05/03/2015 15:04

His reply to plant ...... They have a baby on the way a plant needs maintenance

we are moving home in the next few months god help him when we get gifts

Little hamper filled with nice jams, cheeses, chutneys and wine?

EveBoswell · 05/03/2015 15:06

Not all house plants are easy to care for Wowfidge

If the people putting on the housewarming party are from another area, what about a guide book or historical book about the place they've moved to?

If it's a new house what about plants for the garden? A lot of roses have names that mean something eg Silver Jubilee or Carefree Days. If you do choose a rose though, try to choose a very fragrant one and check on how disease resistant it is.

EveBoswell · 05/03/2015 15:08

Good idea, Sapphires. I have those in my engagement ring

Sapphires in my ring, not cheeses or chutneys....

Justmuddlingalong · 05/03/2015 15:09

Get your DP to pick the gift, if he's so knowledgeable about what they would and wouldn't like.

LisaMed · 05/03/2015 15:09

I always get candles. They are small, can be put at the back of a drawer and easily re-gifted. Quite a lot of people like them.

ShadowSpiral · 05/03/2015 15:25

I like the hamper idea best.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 05/03/2015 15:27

Just some nice fancy chocs?

MonstrousRatbag · 05/03/2015 15:29

Time to hand over to your expert DH and let him arrange everything, surely?

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 05/03/2015 15:33

Haha, MonstrousRatbag has it.

Notso · 05/03/2015 16:03

Voucher for meal out or take away so they don't have to cook on moving day.

ThatBloodyWoman · 05/03/2015 16:08

Get something you really like.
When your dp poo poos it,you keep it,and ask him if he would mind getting something instead....

Kiwiinkits · 05/03/2015 23:45

Just take flowers to them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2015 02:27

I know I'm weird but... a fire extinguisher. Caring, irritatingly expensive to buy but you need to have one, baby on the way so fire safety is important, if they don't like it, they can use it to chill beer I am reliably informed by highly qualified fire fighters.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 06/03/2015 03:13

How about a wipe clean book called "1001 facts you can learn on the loo"? We can't be the only recipients of such disgusting literature surely?

editthis · 06/03/2015 23:24

My favourite house-warming present was a big can of Vanish together with a bottle of wine. Two of the best and most useful things to have in one's cupboard. Though PP sound a little more thoughtful than me and my friends.
