to be posed that the council has put up normal gym membership 10% but left all the discounted ones alone leaving mugs like me to sub them

Gym membership has now gone up from 40 to 44. But what really pissed me off is saying in the letter that they are happy that discounted rates will remain unchanged.

I don't mind subing other peoples membership if they need it, but most of the people I know get discounted membership even though they have more money than me. Discounted membership is given to all 60+ that seems a bit strange as this isn't retirement age and not really that old. My parents both get this 25% discount and they don't need it at all. Its also given to professionals in the nearby office as they have some corporate scheme.

I think under 16s should have to pay actually, but just a token amount like 50p as people don't value "free" stuff

Free swimming is a good thing for us as ds2 has ASD it gives us something to do and tire him out and as he is on the councils record of children with disabillities .myself and dh also go free as his carers I can't comment on how busy london buses are as I live in Bolton Confused

suzzieanneba46 · 06/03/2015 16:11

Its not about them being busy.

I think the council gyms are too expensive. I pay 12.99 at my private gym and that's the same for everyone.

x2boys · 06/03/2015 17:22

If you mean how awful some kids behave on buses are that happens everywhere .

GratefulHead · 06/03/2015 17:23

I can't afford our local town gym, I get no discount, even as a Carer. And yes I pay Council Tax for anyone who thinks those out of work (for whatever reason) don't have to,

Sallyingforth · 06/03/2015 17:28

If it's a council establishment then complain to your local councillors. Democracy usually wins.

BTW Retired people usually go during the day when it's less busy, so they don't fill up the place when working people want to use it.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2015 17:32

They've probably looked at the rates at other gyms and realised due to others discounts they can't put their discounted prices up.

If they did then the over 60s might leave and go to the gym down the road.

Which would leave the gym with a shortfall and they'd have to put your price up even more,

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2015 17:34

Sorry, seen there's no other local gym.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 06/03/2015 18:16

When our council put the OAP subbed swim/gym up to £1 from 50p there was uproar ! When the new prices came in to effect they lined up all with £10/£20 notes to hand over instead of a £1 coin.

I wouldn't mind but they were driving jags ect..!
