Its a progesterone only mini pill. Ive been dieting for 18 months and have managed to lose 3 stone. I took this pill for 3 months last year and was fine.
Came off it 2 weeks before Christmas and stayed off it for six weeks. Started taking it at the end of Jan and took it for four weeks but CHRIST the bloating this time was awful. I felt huge despite dieting. Got weighed 2 weeks ago and had gained 2 and a half pounds despite dieting. Came off mini pill (i dont actually need it for contraception) the day after being weighed and FELT weight come off Clothes are even looser than what they were and i was feeling really good about myself.....until i got weighed today and ive gained another pound Confused despite sticking to plan. The pharmacist told me it would only take 2 or 3 days to leave my system. Looking at the leaflet from the box it says that these synthetic hormones are classed as sex STEROIDS. Am now wondering exactly how long its going to take this shit to leave my system.

Some of these newer pills are replacing ones like Cerazette.....because they are cheaper!

All hormones are technically steroids. The ones involved in reproduction are "sex" steroids. Any hormonal contraception contains them.

ouryve · 03/03/2015 22:05

Zelleta and Cerazette contain exactly the same synthetic hormone as their active ingredient. The only differences between the two are subtle differences in the substrate and coating.

Sorry you had a rubbish experience. You seem most worried about the fact that the term sex steroid is used about this drug but Actually this is a generic term used to described naturally occuring sex hormones including progesterone, oestrogens and androgens ( like testosterone). Any hormonal contraceptive has sex steroids in it therefore YABU.

Sorry Jolay Im just ranting and thought i would start a thread in case anyone had the same experience. Just couldnt work out why i was ok the first time and not the second time. Ive worked so bloody hard on my weight and my health over the past 2 years.

Just really pissed off.

It's metabolised within a few days so doesn't stay "in your system". That's why you can get pregnant if you miss 2 pills.

Progesterones can cause an increased appetite, as well as fluid retention and bloating. However if you've stopped tasking it the symptoms won't persist.

If using hormonal contraceptives try not to stop and start them. Also fluctuating weight gain of 1-3 pounds is probably fluid retention and not necessarily related to the pill, it can occur throughout a woman's cycle.

specialsubject · 03/03/2015 22:26

bloating could be a side effect. As is increased appetite. (you have the option of not acting on this) Won't be the same for everyone.

sidge states the facts.

MaudeLebowski · 03/03/2015 22:26

2.5 pounds doesn't seem like a lot. Your body fluctuates around 2 pounds everyday!

HelenaDove · 03/03/2015 22:43

I didnt notice an increased appetite. And ive been sticking to SW Thats why im so annoyed.

If i had been mainlining Galaxy then fair enough. But ive been doing nothing of the sort.

I eat small portions these days Cant eat like i used to.

I gain stupid amounts of weight with any hormonal contraceptives. I think it’s more common than is advertised. All these women struggling with weight and I often wonder if they use hormonal contraceptives. As soon as I ditched the pill for a copper coil the weight fell off and more or less stayed off for 8 years now and counting.
