Dd has had headaches on and off for a while but does complain if them quite often. We found out that she needed glasses a few months ago and I thought that would fix the problem. She also has really bad sleep as she's waiting for a tonsilectomy next month for sleep apnoea.
She has been complaining this week of feeling nauseous in the mornings but not actually vomiting and I just thought maybe she had a but of an off stomach but she's had a nasty headache tonight and feels sick. Just Google nausea and headaches in children and a list as long as my arm fir brain tumour info came up. I'm now laying in bed panicking. She's only 5. Would there be other symptoms?

Sorry for typos I'm knackered and on my phone

If she has sleep apnea - it's more than likely a high carbon dioxide level causing headaches and poor quality sleep.

Step away from google. Grin

abunintheoven · 03/03/2015 19:40

I've stepped away. I didn't even read much if it as I was getting into a bit of a frenzy. I have a toddler who is an absolute sleep thief so I could be over reacting due to exhaustion too.
Yeah she has tonsils that cause an obstruction while she's sleeping. Some nights are better than others but she wakes frequently.

iF she has sleep apnoea and can't sleep then of course she'll be having headaches.
Headaches can lead to nausea.

londonrach · 03/03/2015 19:42

Step away from dr goggle as give you worse case. I have ibs but according to dr goggle bowel cancer. See real doctor and hope dd feeling better soon xxx

Needmorechocolate · 03/03/2015 19:42

Maybe she has a migraine? Could be making her feel sick as well as the headache?

Mixtape · 03/03/2015 19:43

I have quite severe health anxiety. Google is NOT YOUR FRIEND.

When I was at the Drs recently (for a genuine on going problem, not an anxiety one this time!) And he was talking about the way that symptoms are listed.on websites and how different that is from the actual clinical presentation of symptoms associated with serious conditions. E.g. someone will read leg pain as a symptom.of bone cancer and there will be differences between the general ache and pain and the person who actually has a potential problem. He sees both so he is comfortable knowing the difference but the person who has read the symptoms just sees that they have what it says on the list. For every hundred people who come in worried because of symptoms, only a couple even need serious investigation.

I don't know if I am explaining it well, but I did find it slightly reassuring!

I am sure your DD is fine - children are very good and random and inexplicable illnesses. Smile

Go see the go to put your mind at rest.

abunintheoven · 03/03/2015 19:44

Yeah, I'll make an appointment with gp just for peace if mind. Sorry I even looked now.

Brain tumours are very very rare.

It is far more likely to be something else and the headaches would be everyday and bad and there would be morning vomiting not nausea.

Peony58890 · 03/03/2015 19:45

Has she been hallucinating?

Chippednailvarnish · 03/03/2015 19:46

I've been terminally ill at least 5 times according to Google. Grin
I'm sure your DD is fine.

RandomNPC · 03/03/2015 19:46

The vast majority of headaches have perfectly innocent causes. Dehydration, tiredness, eye strain (are the new glasses suiting her?), viral infections etc.
Headaches associated with fevers, vomiting, rashes and neck pain have to be taken more seriously obviously.
I'd pop her along to the GP, to put your mind at rest.

NanaNina · 03/03/2015 19:47

Don't consult Dr Google - ever........

Charlotte3333 · 03/03/2015 19:47

Go and see your GP. And ask them to look into migraines as well as generally checking her over; DS1 suffers from them and they are just vile for him. He gets them when he's tired or stressed and they are always nausea-inducing.

abunintheoven · 03/03/2015 19:48

Yeah mixtape I know what you're trying to say Smile there would probably be a whole lot of other problems too wouldn't there like confusion and dizziness etc?
I don't have any health anxiety of my own really but could turn something miniscule into a mountain when it comes to the dc's!

My vote is on the sleep apnoea doing it. Go back to the GP or ENT consultant and push for the op to be brought forward

hemel07 · 03/03/2015 19:54

Have a look at the Headsmart website. They have pretty comprehensive info for different age groups. Almost always more symptoms than just a headache. And would be vomiting, as opposed to nausea, its caused by a build up of pressure and relieved by vomiting. But get her checked as unpleasant for her whatever the reason.

abunintheoven · 03/03/2015 19:58

Yeah I will get it checked she doesn't seem to drink much at school either which probably doesn't help. She goes to school with a full bottle of water and it comes home full most days. So she's only really having a drink with her breakfast dinner and tea and she runs round like a mad woman!

I would investigate dairy intolerance. Dairy can cause headaches, nausea and tonsillitis. A brain tumour is very unlikely.

icedgem30 · 03/03/2015 20:04

Mixtape I echo what you say as a fellow health anxiety sufferer, dr google is bad! Dr google had me on the road to a breakdown and there was nothing i mean nothing wrong with me.

My headaches from bad sleep/eyestrain always cause me to feel sick. Your dd will be absolutely fine I'm sure a brain tumor would have more severe/prominent symptoms.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 03/03/2015 20:07

Definitely get her checked out but I think I'm right in saying that brain tumour headaches don't come and go.

Lima1 · 03/03/2015 20:08

Lack of sleep and dehydration give me headaches and nausea and I regularly nauseous in the morning.
My husbands little girl had a brain tumor. Her main symptom was headaches but they were very bad, really affected her life. They got so bad she brought her to A&E one day and from there she was diagnosed.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 03/03/2015 20:08

Also, for those of you suffering with health anxiety (as I do!) - have a think about CBT. You can self-refer for CBT on the NHS in some areas. I know because I'm doing it at the moment :)

abunintheoven · 03/03/2015 20:14

Hope your dh's little girl was ok Lima?
