To think a new hire should be introduced?!

A new employee began yesterday and has not been introduced to the rest of the staff! His manager says, "We will introduce him in a month's time when someone else starts as well so we can introduce them both at the same time." We are a small-ish office of about 25 people. IABU to think this is really odd?

That is mad, but surely you could just introduce yourself? Does it have to be so formal?

CrystalSkull · 03/03/2015 17:42

I will do so when an opportunity arises but it hasn't (new hire has been in training most of the last two days). The company culture is very hierarchical and formal so introducing myself in front of his manager would be seen as pulling rank.

Honestly I wouldn't be sticking around for a month waiting to be introduced to everyone. That would be make me feel really uncomfortable and excluded.

CrystalSkull · 03/03/2015 17:52

I'm not sure I would, either, tbh...

I'd feel uncomfortable if I were the newbie having no one speak to me. At my work place everyone just talks to the new starters as if they've been there all along

Thats horrible :( can you sneak afyer him and say hello when he nips for a coffee/loo?
I atarted a new job today and my manager has gone out of his way to introduce every single person who has wafted past, theres about 100 staff so I don't remember anybody yet but its nice to be included!
