I looked out the window, at work, to see two kids inside a Range Rover parked outside. On a busy High Street. Then I noticed that they were alone...
The little girl, about three years old, climbed on top of her baby brother, who was in a carry cot, & started attacking him. I remember doing the same to my baby brother when I was that age.
But there was nobody there to stop her, so she punched, scratched & shouted at him for ten minutes non-stop.
Then she climbed into the front seat, opened the car door & escaped... I ran out into the street in the lashing rain. She was nowhere to be seen. I went around the corner. No little girl.
Then I see her running alongside a man (Dad?) who jogs up to check that baby is in the car, nods & buggers off again, with her.
Another ten minutes pass & Dad returns with little girl & big brother. He bundles the wet children into the car & drives off, not a glance at the baby.
I'm not a mum, so I never usually comment on parenting. But, bloody hell... Would you have said something to him?

Okay, I'm sorry. I'll know what to do if I ever see it again. Some situations are unbelievable. My reaction was inappropriate. I'm prepared to say something in future.

No, I'm a failed stickler, obviously. I forget that caking bullshit is forbidden.

Rinoachicken · 03/03/2015 16:50

After being punched and scratched for 10mins a baby would be screaming blue murder or unconcious (sp?) or worse. But you say 'he' looked fine?? Sorry but that doesn't make sense

ShatnersBassoon · 03/03/2015 16:51

Calling, not caking bullshit Confused Grin

I can't believe someone would just sit back and do nothing while a 3 year old attacked a baby for 10 mins. Then also saw their dad had left them unattended in a unlocked car.

Seriously what on earth was going through your mind just watching it all.

AlleyCat11 · 03/03/2015 16:57

I've never trolled anything in my life. This is my usual MN name.
I shared what I saw here to see what others would do if it were them.
I accept that I should have said something to this Dad / intervened.
That seems to be the general reaction. I'm taking it on board.

Fair enough, op. Sorry for calling you a liar.

CalamityKate1 · 03/03/2015 17:01

NOBODY sits and watches a baby being attacked for TEN minutes without doing anything.

Fairenuff · 03/03/2015 17:02

Royal you could be reported because you are breaking talk guidelines by troll hunting. If you think it is a lie you should click on Report (in the top right of the post) and explain why you think so in the text box provided. HQ will then look at it and decide.

Right. Questions:

  1. How close were you to the car exactly? Unless it was parked right outside your ground floor window details such as sex of baby & scratching would have been impossible to see.
  1. 10 minutes? Really!? A baby small enough to be in a carrycot would be seriously injured after sustaining the described 10 minute attack by a 3 year old!
  1. Did you say the baby "looked fine" when dad came to check on him? Absolutely impossible after the events described. He would at the very least be very upset!

Either what you witnessed was the little girl playing with the baby, which explains him being perfectly fine (in which case YANBU to say dad should not have left them alone) OR this is a complete fairytale.

DinoMight · 03/03/2015 17:10

That's just shocking.

Leaving a Range Rover unlocked on a busy High Street, some people just shouldn't have cars.

Royalsighness · 03/03/2015 17:14

I have just reported it, why on earth are my posts being deleted?

TheSingingMonkey · 03/03/2015 17:14

OP, as a nurse we once had a child who came in after having got out of the car into the road and was hit by another car. He had been left in there.

It's not just about saying something next time, it's about reporting him so he never does it again. It's an absolute failure in the safety of these children.

MrsDiesel · 03/03/2015 17:16

Wow my first ever deletion!

Was the baby crying? Did anyone else see what was happening?

Fairenuff · 03/03/2015 17:17

Because you were troll hunting Royal

Royalsighness · 03/03/2015 17:19

This thread has more holes than a pair of fishnet tights! Hmm

BolshierAyraStark · 03/03/2015 17:22

If it was in a carrycot ratherthan a carseat i'd reckon it was a doll-also wouldn't the car auto lock after 10 mins or so?-provided it was newish, both our cars do this...

TheFairyCaravan · 03/03/2015 17:27

You can get out of a locked car from the inside.

KateSMumsnet · 03/03/2015 17:30

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who reported this thread to us. We've taken a look into things and we've no reason to believe that the OP is anything other than genuine.

We've had to delete a couple of post for troll hunting - so can we please remind you of our rules and that if you have doubts about a poster, the best thing is to get in touch with us.

NeedABumChange · 03/03/2015 17:31

OP has said she doesn't know the difference between a car seat/carrycot. Indeed I know people who refer to car seats as carrycots when they are being carried around.

Also even if the car is locked you can get out.

ChoresAreForBores · 03/03/2015 17:31

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 03/03/2015 17:35

MNHQ - might be better just to zap the whole thread...? Not sure it serves any purpose now..,

BolshierAyraStark · 03/03/2015 17:40

Yeah you can get out but if the keys aren't either with or very near to the car the alarm usually goes off, least it does on mine no doubt this would've upset the 'baby' further provided it was still conscious of coutse after its 10 minute attack.
