AIBU?

Not to mind my grey hairs?

Every time I go to the hairdressers I'm asked whether I want to cover my greys.

Today a colleague was taking a photo of me (for a notice board at work) and offered to take it "from the other side" so that my greys would show up less.

This made me look around more carefully, and I noticed that the only two colleagues showing any grey are much older than me. The only other greys showing were roots. Most of us have some grey.

I'm 47, have very dark brown hair with an uneven sprinkling of shiny white hairs. What's the big deal?

What's the big deal?

I guess it's unusual for a woman in her 40s to not dye her grey hair, but there's nothing wrong with that choice. I'm surprised at the reactions you've had - I would assume somebody who didn't dye their hair was perfectly comfortable with grey hair and wouldn't even think to comment on it.

Well, I don't have any yet, but seeing as I'm allergic to hair dye, I'm going to have to!

< Am going to pretend to people that I am purposefully ageing gracefully, but it will be a LIE Grin >

YANBU. Now and think about hair dye, but when DD used dye on her hair, it trashed it. My hair is extremely temperamental so I haven't risked it...

YANBU, I have a sprinkling of greys all over with a grey stripe at the front!

My attitude is that firstly, I can't be arsed getting trapped in a cycle of dying my hair and having to deal with roots, and secondly, I am in my 40s and grey hair is par for the course!

I'm 23 and don't dye my grey hair. I saw a notice quote saying "We constantly exchange the beautiful of our youth for experience and depth of character". I quite like my greys!

I've had some very negative comments about how aging my grey hair is. I quite like it but apparently other people don't Hmm. Wish they'd fuck off to be honest.

YANBU. I'm 45 with dark hair with sparkly bits. Thankfully, I have a hairdresser sensible enough to complement me on it and good enough to cut it to look lovely.

Not looking forward to the dreaded grey pubic hair.

It sometimes just falls out, or spreads down your legs before it gets to turning grey, caz Wink

Mines already spread out. Seriously part beast here. I have really pale skin and very dark hair!

My wife is 41 and is getting a grey stripe. I love it! I always tell her not to get it dyed when she gets her hair done. Just ignore people who make negative comments about it - not everyone finds it unattractive.

I'm going grey. The alternatives are shaving my head or putting nasty chemicals on it.

I prefer the grey to either of those. Quite honestly, I rarely think about the grey hairs, they're just there, although I do have a good cut regularly.

I get highlights put in to ahem...blend with the more silvery bits about 3 times a year but the thought of having to get roots done every couple of weeks...I don't know how people do it

I found a grey armpit hair yesterday (disclaimer - growing them long enough to get a good clean wax)

Doesn't it seem like people are bothered by you being comfortable with your own greyness?

I wonder what proprtion women on their 40s (or other decades) dye to hide greys.

70isalimit (love the name BTW) you don't need to justify letting your body hair grow long. Smile

can you imagine the fuss it takes to keep on top of the colour and new growth

It seems to be almost the norm to dye your hair in some way now anyway, regardless of whether or not you are going grey, so I suppose if you've always dyed it you're not going to stop. Whereas those of us who never had had dyed hair can't see the point in starting! I'm a redhead and hoping to fade gracefully to a nice sandy colour (that's what my hairdresser is telling me will happen, and she's advising me not to dye.)

I'm 48 and have a few nice silvery greys - not dying them ever. Quite looking forward to it really.

My mum was well in her 60s before she went grey, so I'm hoping I have the genes to carry it off as well as she did - I missed out on the 'ample bosom' gene, so I reckon I'm owed!!

Have a look at 1000SilverWomen facebook page. A celebration of grey and some truly stunning pictures. I think if you're grey you can wear shades like hot pink or turquoise and look fab. I've given up dyeing my hair - although I go blue or purple occasionally - and feel better than when I was brown.

Well I have been going grey since about the age of 16 and am now in my early thirties and will not be embracing it any time soon. Looking quite young is one of my only redeeming features appearance wise, so I'm not going to give that up without a fight! Grin

I'm 30 and cover mine; have been going grey for about 5 years already. But if you don't want to, then don't. Personal choice, YANBU
