back story
I broke my arm end of Jan so took 3 days off.
feb-then worked from home 2 days and then 2 weeks later had 2 days off in hospital.
when I went back my boss said that he was unhappy as a couple of teams were unhappy I hadn't managed to do some of my tasks and maybe my focus on my job wasn't as good at the moment.
that was 2 weeks ago. last week I got flu ( the not being able to move type) so was off again for 2 days.
I know its a lot of time off but I really couldn't help it.
anyway got to work this morning at 830 he arrived at 1030 and asked to have a word.
his words" I think we should part ways"
me "OK when do you want me to go?"
due to time off it wasn't a complete surprise but
him " I've got your replacement coming in at 11 you could do a handover today then go or now?"
me "umm "

so I went outside called dh talked about it then went back in logged off computer and picked up coat and left.
wanker!

HermioneWeasley · 02/03/2015 19:46

How long had you worked there?

GokTwo · 02/03/2015 19:46

Crikey, that does sound harsh. Is he allowed to do that?

fizzycolagurlie · 02/03/2015 19:46

I think the way they did this might be illegal...

Libitina · 02/03/2015 19:47

If you are in the UK your boss is in big trouble.

londonrach · 02/03/2015 19:47

How long you worked for the company, are you part of a union? You sure there no back story.

toddlewaddleflipflop · 02/03/2015 19:48

Umm, sounds illegal to me. Id take legal advice.

SocialMediaAddict · 02/03/2015 19:48

What does your contract say about notice? I'm no expert but that sounds illegal.

abouttobeevicted · 02/03/2015 19:51

unfortunately I'm a contractor so not illegal. he can cover his arse by his talk about not doing so well 2 weeks ago. contract was ending end of march but still. Angry

Just read that you are a contractor. You don't really have any options. Out of interest what were you contracted to do? Was you role essential to the completion/delivery of a particular project/program? Was this relevant to why he got shitty?

Justanotherlurker · 02/03/2015 20:27

Your a contractor, you can't have the benefits of both paye and contractor.

Can understand that you being pissed off though.

abouttobeevicted · 02/03/2015 20:33

I had 7 different projects.
1 just started year long on track
1 new on track
1 bau going well
1 existing took over from someone else going OK
1 wrapping up this week went to plan
1 bau going OK but team lead doesn't like me
1 just cancelled due to budget.
so 5/7 isn't bad.

Are you financial sector? I worked for a Bank some years back and we had contractors. Our contractors were paid anything from £500 to £2000 a day. As a result expectation would have been 7/7 output/delivery. For the money paid they wanted their skins worth.

Really sorry for the way you have been released. Hopefully you have a new contracting position soon. Unfortunately this is one of the pitfalls of contracting but at least the pay is good.

Good luck Op.
