AIBU to think 'like' buttons on MN might be a good idea?

I sometimes really like a post and want to show appreciation without adding to the thread just to say "I agree with Bigboobies/Ineedwine"

Orinoco it's a MN glitch apparently.

thornrose · 02/03/2015 23:43

Nooooo, it's good to talk.

DeliciousIrony · 02/03/2015 23:51

Have you seen Nethuns, you just end up with a long list of random posters on the end of every post who 'like' it, it clogs up the page and means nothing on such a big website when most posts would get 'likes'.

hiddenhome · 02/03/2015 23:53

People like me would receive loads of dislikes though, and it would impact upon their mental health and general wellbeing.

meditrina · 02/03/2015 23:54

It's not so long since MNHQ had a poll about this.

Resounding 'no', IIRC

thoth · 02/03/2015 23:54

No, No, NO! FFS- this has been done a thousand times.

How hard is it just to type "Good post, thoth"?

DinosaursStillExist · 03/03/2015 00:15

So it seems that's a No, but could there ever be an option in AIBU to vote YABU/YANBU when posting a written response so that a tally could be kept with the OP? Or is that pointless?

Lovemycatsandkids · 03/03/2015 00:22

Would like a 'you are a twat' button but that's not really going to happen so sod the 'like' button.

CuttedUpPear · 03/03/2015 00:23

Nope.

CuttedUpPear · 03/03/2015 00:24

Get yourself to Nethuns if that's what you are looking for.

Redglitter · 03/03/2015 00:36

I'd quite like a quote button so.i could quote the post I wanted to reply to. I'm crap at highlighting things on my phone

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 03/03/2015 00:43

Nooooo! This is not FB! If you like/agree with someones post just say so!

edballslongslowburn · 03/03/2015 00:53

Nah. So much better to actually agree and name the poster. I get a little warm glow when someone :o a post of mine.

Kikiw123 · 03/03/2015 01:02

Agree with redglitter

EstRusMum · 03/03/2015 01:35

What about both like and dislike to be shown as a number under each comment? Like they have on news sites in comments? That would be reasonable, don't you think?

FenellaFellorick · 03/03/2015 07:29

Why do we need that?

TwoOddSocks · 03/03/2015 08:39

I like that there's no voting system. It makes people braver in stating an opinion that goes against the grain. Otherwise you get a dynamic where if the first few posters goo one way the whole thread follows because people don't want to lose out on their internet points. (Apart from me obviously as I'm above such trivial point scoring Wink!

BallsforEarrings · 03/03/2015 08:47

I am on a professional forum which allows us to 'thank' a post if we find it valuable!

You can click 'thank this post' and at the bottom of their post it says which users 'thanked the post!

Trouble is not many users notice this and just post their thanks in the next post without 'thanking' the post IYSWIM!

Timetoask · 03/03/2015 08:55

No, it would become a popularity contest, as it is, some post are already borderline bullying and as a human race we seem to follow the negative like sheep so I think the most negative people on mumsnet would suddenly become a "cult"

OTheHugeManatee · 03/03/2015 08:56

YABU. It would turn MN into an idiotic echo chamber like Facebook.

maddening · 03/03/2015 10:20

I think like and dislike buttons would be good and also a poll/voting feature

maddening · 03/03/2015 10:23

timeto - wouldn't it also allow people to reflect a dislike for bullying posters without having to join a bunfight?

SoupDragon · 03/03/2015 10:28

YABU.

It discourages conversation.

dangerrabbit · 03/03/2015 10:36

YABU

Would ruin the feel of the site

allshineon · 03/03/2015 10:53

Okay I am starting to agree that like buttons would discourage bun fights healthy debate. About 7 or 8 years ago I started a thread wondering if an iPad app should be introduced.....and got flamed by so many haters.....I bet loads of us have an app on our phones and iPads/tabs now. But maybe the like button is a bit unnecessary.....had no idea they had it on Nethuns though....
