Parking one

So neighbour across the road, since Friday has marked out the space outside his house with all 3 bins and today appears to have commandeered some sort of road barrier thing and added that to the blockade.
All the while his own car is parked further up the road! No building work is going on so is just bizarre.

Would I be unreasonable to drive my car into said blockade sending the whole thing flying?

Yabu you might damage your car!
Seriously though, could he be moving house and saving room for the lorry? Or do you think he's just trying to piss all the neighbours off?

NewNameForMarch · 01/03/2015 16:50

Ooh another parking one. I think you need to get a photo so we can give an informed reply please op.

WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 16:51

Not moving as far as I know. Even then wouldn't you just park your own car there and move it to make room for the lorry? Same with any sort of builders etc

The car is over 13 years old now, might be a fitting end to its long life? Wink

Dare you to move the whole caboodle and park there.

Extra points for telling him
You have every right to park on a public highway Grin

Nancy66 · 01/03/2015 16:53

how pressured is the road for parking places?

has he applied for a parking suspension?

TheReluctantCountess · 01/03/2015 16:53

Is there somewhere you can report it as a blockage in the road?

OhFlippityBolax · 01/03/2015 16:54

If its on the public highway and not on private property you have a duty to remove the obstruction to keep the road clear and safe...or at least ring the council/101 to get them to do it

WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 16:56

I have moved the one wheelie bin he's left there before and parked for the whole weekend on purpose

OP posts:
Vycount · 01/03/2015 16:58

Maybe he's having a skip delivered.

ARoomWithoutAView · 01/03/2015 17:00

Well.....why don't you ask him?

If he has put the bins there to allow a skip to be delivered tomorrow so that he can start some building work then this will be a short thread.

However, if he has put the bins out so he can do some kind of David Blaine "shuffle the bins round and guess which one I put the bead in" trick then this could be a long thread.

But to answer your question, it probably would be unreasonable without finding out first and then reporting back to us what the reason is. This is a challenge now because you have the making of a great thread - use your ingenuity and turn what appears to be a relatively boring thread into a Mumsnet Classic.

Which town or city are you in and in which country? I work for MIT and we have satellites going overhead all the time. I may be able to help out here.

This needs to be turned into a Classic.

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2015 17:03

Hopefully it's for a removal van for the morning. Go and take a leaving present round and ask. Wink

WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 17:05

I've only parked there the once all weekend, my rage at the wheelie bin took that long to disappear.

Ooo I'm in north london, summon the satellites please!

OP posts:
WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 17:07

And I can fully understand he might be moving/having work done on Monday but I would just have parked my own car there and moved it come Monday not fashioned a parking blockade for the whole weekend

If you all agree I can drive my car into it, I'll show you the picture I've taken?

OP posts:
SweetsForMySweet · 01/03/2015 17:16

Why does it bother you? It is outside his house,
Why are you parking outside his house?

WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 17:19

Why shouldn't I park outside his house? Can't remember the last time I got to park outside mine!

OP posts:
countessmarkyabitch · 01/03/2015 17:20

It's a public road, she can park outside his house if she wants. Presumably if there were a space free outside ehr own house she wouldn't have posted Hmm

TidyDancer · 01/03/2015 17:22

Phone the council, they will deal with him re the bins.

Staywithme · 01/03/2015 18:03

I assume you have a past history with this neighbour, hence the parking outside his house all weekend? Does he park outside your house or deliberately irritate you in some way? Is it his fault you can't park outside yours?

WheresWallyNow · 01/03/2015 18:14

Not really any past history bar the one weekend of parking outside and that was just because I was so fed up of him leaving his bin in the road to save himself a space all the time.

The road has very limited parking due to loads of people having driveways more than one car per house etc.

Just think he's pretty inconsiderate of others and was quite amused/infuriated by the lengths he's gone to this time!

OP posts:
EveBoswell · 01/03/2015 18:28

It could be that he's marked the bit of road so that a hearse can park there while a body is collected or delivered. It does happen sometimes.

Having said that, I have been to a house where the undertakers had marked out the bit of road outside with black and white cones, colours such that passers by might get the hint.
