to think apple deliberately make their products to become obsolete ***title edited by MNHQ***

I really regret buying into apple stuff, it works great, until they release a new version then the updates come that you have to install in order to use the apps that no longer work. Then it just gets slower and slower. My Samsung was always the same. It should be illegal as I'm sure they do it on purpose to make you upgrade.

I have used apple products for around 10 years, and they have always worked.

I had to get a windows laptop recently for a new work contract, in the first 24 hours it had downloaded a virus just setting itself up [I hadn't even used the damn thing] and then needed to be reset to factory settings as it would not let me log on [black screen of death]. Unfuckingbelieveable.

Give me apple products any day.

Datahub · 01/03/2015 15:18

offensive Schmensive

Just hide it if you don't like it

INickedAName · 01/03/2015 15:30

I always hold off updating until I've read enough reviews to be confident it won't fuck up my device. So I don't have ios8 on dds ipad 2 (it's on ios6) and I'm sticking with ios7 mini for now. (I've read negative things about ios on anything from iPhone 4 and lower.)

Thes a few new titles that are ios 8 only which dd won't be able to play, but if ios 8 runs laggy then I'd assume games requiring Metal etc would only increase the problem, but it's certainly not obsolete, many schools and workplaces still have ipad 2 and until not so long ago it was still sold by apple as an entry device.

OP you could try downloading and running something Dr storage which clears out left over files and junk etc. Also remember to close down apps running in background properly, a lot of people just press the home button, which keeps the program running, using up memory making the device slower. Double tapping the home button brings up all of the running program's and you can close them properly from there. Use web browser to check emails instead of the built in app as it downloads the emails to the device and can clog up memory. You probably do all these things anyway but just thought would suggest just in case.

My iPad Air worked fine on ios6. I put off upgrading the os until a couple of months ago. After I did it it was dramatically slower, this was an instant change after the update and I'm talking webpages taking at times a minute to open when they'd been nearly instant before.

I did a hard reset and that helped. Not perfect, but a lot better.

RustyBear · 01/03/2015 15:37

Scissy - very surprised you're being asked to update a MacBook to iOS 8!

LaChatte · 01/03/2015 16:49

What is really annoying is that if you decide to do an update, and it turns out that your ipad is slower with the new OS, you can't go back to the previous one.

scissy · 01/03/2015 17:29

Rusty so was I, tbh I suspect it was a trojan of something (which was the other reason I ignored it!) Yes, I am well aware that macs are not immune to such things. Was surprised my AV didn't flag it though.

One person finds comparing a phone to dementia so offensive they embark on a one man mission to get it censored despite everyone else not finding if offensive Confused

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/03/2015 09:33

How do you know who found it offensive or not, Suzu? Some people report without posting. MNHQ decides. Take it up with them if you have a problem with it.

Odd that your only post on the thread is to complain about that rather than the actual topic of the thread. Not odd if you want to just be goady though?

Thymeout · 02/03/2015 13:56

Well, here's another one who thinks Mumsnet was overreacting. (I have replied to the topic of the thread earlier and said I didn't think there was anything wrong with the original post, and why.)

I wasn't going to take it up with HQ because life's too short. There are many, many other things about dementia that are much more worthy of taking offence at.

But since you mention it...

Oh - and the Mac OS system is far easier and quicker to use than any other, which is another reason I've always bought Macs.

ilovesooty · 02/03/2015 14:02

It's quite clearly stated by HQ that they had quite a few complaints about the title.
I also made it clear that I was happy to abide by whatever decision HQ made.
Thanks Lying Flowers

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 02/03/2015 14:32

I'm pleased MNHQ edited the title.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/03/2015 14:40

Thymeout... Did you know that the poster you are standing next to in agreement was deleted on another thread because MNHQ didn't think they were genuine?

I currently don't have anybody in my family who is affected by dementia but, given that many people do, and I might well in the future, it's not my job to question why somebody would take offence because it's very likely that they have somebody close to them who is affected and they have taken offence.

So, why then post on a thread where a) Offence has been taken and b) MNHQ have ratified that by amending the title? What's to be gained from that exactly? Do you need to blurt out every little thought in your head or are you not woman enough to clock what's happened, apologise if you'd posted (which you hadn't) and take it up with MNHQ on a one-to-one?

I take offence at you, Thymeout for posting after the fact just to make your offensive point. Just how insensitive is it possible to be?

======

Sooty... as you know, I'm a clumsy poster myself sometimes. This would be much too much for me. Thanks

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/03/2015 14:42

Ok, so you did post... and still posted about it again.

Thymeout · 02/03/2015 15:29

Lying...I'm not clear which parts of your post apply to me and which to the poster you say was deleted on another thread.

For the record, as I said in my previous post, I do have direct experience of dementia. I was a carer for my mother who had it for 5 years before she died. I don't see anything wrong in providing a different point of view. I think I have the right to say that I was not offended. Didn't even notice it in the original post, before MN amended it. At that point, I was supporting the OP.

Like Pineapple, I think taking unnecessary offence can be counterproductive. And I do think MN made the wrong call on this occasion. I think I'm allowed to have a view on that.

I hope OP manages to fix her phone. I've always found the Genius Bar in Apple Stores very helpful.

Roseformeplease · 02/03/2015 15:35

My iPad 2 was running so slowly and crashing so much I took it into the Apple Shop. Turned out that it was "full". The guy was confused. Apparently, they have form for collecting "corrupt data" over time. We deleted everything and re-installed from the cloud and now it runs like new. Amazing. (Free). I had been told it was ios8 by another shop but it is running ios8 still and going great.

So, they do become obsolete but they can have some use squeezed out of them with the right advice.

maryjolisalondon · 02/03/2015 16:05

Some people just like getting "outraged" daily mail esq about any thing. Mn delete stuff all the time even though often they say they can't see anything wrong with it, just because others were offended. Thereby making the foot stompers even worse.

ilovesooty · 02/03/2015 18:18

MNHQ made it clear on this thread they had received quite a few complaints and made it clear in their email to me that they fully supported the report I made, so they didn't edit it just because "someone" complained. Some people had no issue with it. "Everybody else" didn't find it OK.
I'm puzzled at having the Daily Mail brought into this quite frankly. And because I have a point of view that differs from someone else's doesn't justify referring to me as a "foot stomper".

DisappointedOne · 02/03/2015 18:30

Every company does this. Lightbulbs were the first thing to be deliberately engineered to die after a certain amount of time.
